Yup. Anytime I see a drama with short skirts and big hair, I know it's got a chance to be good. Applaud

It's before the inrush of those actor wannabe J-Pop stars, which diluted the acting pool and prompted writers to write dramas for that J-idol crowd. bleh

Seto Asaka's sexy business style!

And a few more done...

Saikou no Jinsei no Owarikata
Just couldn't get into this drama at all. Having Yamapi in it didn't help. This drama needed a funeral of its own....

Dirty Mama!
About as rotten as those eggs Nagasaku threw. Is this the kind of drama you get after winning a Japan Academy Award? Hopefully she'll be in a better drama next time (can't be much worse).

Inspired by Saigo Kara Nibanme no Koi, I put Bunshin on hold and watched another Koizumi Kyoko drama: Shokuzai, a five episode drama with a brilliant cast.

The drama itself shows a rather sick side of the human mind. Each of the episodes are somehow stand-alones, but it's going somewhere and has a revealing conclusion. My favorite episodes were the Aoi Yu and Ikewaki Chizuru episodes. Don't expect nice characters, everybody sucks Mr Green !

Just watched the first 6 episodes of Umechan Sensei, the latest asadora with Horikita Maki. I like it very much. They got right into it and every fifteen minutes felt like more in that they told a lot about the story and the characters but without feeling rushed at the same time. That impressed me. A lot of outdoor settings, the shots by the creek looks great, and the ruins look quite authentic. Definitely looking forward to watching it again.

Sounds like a lot of people agree with you. There's this:

Horikita Maki's "Umechan-sensei" got 18.5% ratings (Kanto) for 1st ep - highest start for an Asadora in last 5 years.

Taking a break from Gegege no Nyobo I decided to watch Strawberry Night. http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Strawberry_Night

And I'm very pleased I did.

The mysteries didn't really break new ground, but it's nice to see someone like Takeuchi playing this kind of part. She's one of the few actresses that can give the impression of strength and intelligence... while still being good looking enough to be the star of a TV show.

And a wonderful cast, filled with her supporters and her enemies.

I loved her relationship with her squad.

I understand there's a movie yet to come... but it would be nice if they decided to do another season.

Oh yeah...

Hey Evie!

Yup, I'm back at it. Just a bit less obsessed than before. And that's probably a good thing.

Finished DOCTORS Saikyou no Meii.

Don't usually watch medical dramas, but this one was highly entertaining, with some great characters and a great ending theme, "Lullaby of Birdland" by Juju. I could listen to that tune all day.... Big Grin

^ IMO there are two categories for asadoras:

1) "Oshin"

2) All the rest.

Watching Aibou 8, it has Oikawa Mitsuhiro as Sugishita's new partner. They've brought in Rina Uchiyama for the first two episodes I guess to help break us in on the new guy. First two episodes were pretty good but let's see how it goes now that Rina has left.

It must be working, since they're on Aibou 10 in Japan. Victory! Peace!

That's true, there's never been quite another asadora like Oshin.

Apparently, it's also on youtube, with English subs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCfbtkJwVDc

Yep, that's what i like. No doctor playing god or magician. It's the least overbearing medical drama thus far. I dunno if it should have been classified as a comedy. By the way, Juju's soundtrack is already in youtube.

"Gegege", another biographical asadora, also spoke about the second world war. The difference is the account shared in "Gegege" was a real experience of the manga writer.

I remembered when Oshin was completing its run on TV, Yaohan Department Store was declared bankrupt. It was extremely sad.

Whichever asadora I choose to compare, it would still be better than the spread of jdoramas we have on TV now.
