Haha. We were actually trying to go this other teppanyaki restaurant but we got a little lost and got there too late for lunch so we went to the Mitsukoshi Department store in Ginza and stumbled upon another teppanyaki place. it was pretty good. The beef was straight melt in your mouth delicious.

Yup.

The tonkatsu was as good as the tonkatsu at (the now departed) Komatsu.

That's a compliment! Glad you had a good meal. Smile

I haven't had tonkatsu since I ate the dish with EstherM at Maisen in Tokyo.

Speaking of Komatsu, whose specialty was fried foods, primarily tempura, don't forget there is a new Tokyo-based tempura restaurant opening up at the Mar Vista Mitsuwa in Santa Monica on June 11. Hannosuke Tempura

Photo: Hannosuke

The food court of Mar Vistafs Mitsuwa Marketplace has been known for its Santouka Ramen, but as of June 11, the vendor space will get a lot more interesting with the addition of Hannosuke. This vendor is a tempura specialist that started out in Chuo, Tokyo. The mouth-watering tempura spot will mainly specialize only on one item: tempura donburi or tendon. This unique dish features rice, covered with mixed seafood and veggie tempura. For the very first time outside of Japan, the space will be an outpost for its chain, continuing its good tasting tempura in the United States. As you walk past Mitsuwa, you canft help but notice a small poster that reads, gThey may have tasted good sushi in the United States of America, but chances are they have never encountered authentic superb tempura,h along with an outline of the 1950s when a former chairman of Japanfs chef association Hiroyuki Kaneko opened a restaurant that served tempura and was very successful in drawing in business. On June 11, the first 100 customers will enjoy a free bowl of tendon as an added bonus.

Serious. They should put it in the middle of the food court and he who can vault over it in one leap gets one piece of fried goodness.

Oh yeah that was a dayem good breakfast Beastmaster. I woke up at 6, hit the gym at 6:30, cleaned up and I was there for breakfast at 8:30...it was delicious and filling. I also had that French pressed coffee. I don't drink that much coffee...dayem I was high as a kite off the 3 or 4 cups of Joe I poured myself out of that carafe. Buzzin!

One of the baddest birds from LA to the Bay. Roast chicken at Zankou. Legendary status. Crispy skin for the win!

Half roast chicken, hummus (made from scratch daily from fresh garbanzo beans), chili peppers and turnip pickles...and their legendary garlic sauce on the side. w00t!
