Deep into Toshiie now. Pretty much no time for anything else.

What a rich drama. Applaud

Checked out the first two eps of Fuyu No Sakura.

Deep, moving. Stars the same guy from Ii Hito. The one who isn't Nagase Tomoya. Beaten

Like the female lead too. It is well done. Victory! Peace!

I was visiting my parents last week, and they were watching Toshiie and Matsu for the fourth time according to their reckoning. I think Oshin and Suzuran, two asadora, are the only other series they've watched as many times as Toshiie.

Toshiie and Matsu might be the last Taiga that NHK produced before succumbing to the inevitable hiring of far too many young limited-ability idols to populate their series, a trend which has plagued dorama this century.

The one exception in the last ten or so might be Fuurin Kazan. Masaaki Uchino as Kensuke, Tatsuya Nakadai and Sonny Chiba. I think it's the last taiga I watched that I felt satisfied at the end.

You forgot to mention Gackt. bleh

Uchino is a journeyman actor, competent but not much else (although these days to be considered a competent actor in Japan is a good thing). Chiba, whom I like a lot, was never an outstanding actor--charismatic, yes; entertaining, certainly; but a great actor, no . Nakadai is way overrated. He deserves a lot of respect for having such a long career, but off the top of my head, I can't think of a single performance of his that was exceptional.

Sorry to sound so negative; I have become increasingly more curmudgeonly in recent years.

You are right that Fuurin Kazan is different from recent Taiga. And that makes it stand above the others.

That's okay, as the country western song says, "If we all liked the same thing you'd all be after my old lady." Smile

Episode 3 of Priceless. And unlike Going My Home it's got a plot I can follow that makes sense.

Also episode 1 of Osozaki no Himawari . Yoko Maki and Ryoko Kuninaka are sisters. Sure would like to bottle some of that DNA!

Im a third timer and my husband two. New facets of the story come to light each time round. Cried when Nobunaga met his inevitable end last night. Shameful Cry Midway thru now.

Seems like I need to watch more of Oshin. I havent checked out Suzuran but now Im intrigued.

Just put Bartender in the DVD player. Keeping current with what seems to be a rather light but still so far entertaining drama about the search for the perfect coktail. hehe

Started Tokyo Airport - seems like an easy to watch series....
Since its about air traffic controllers, it reminds me of the Happy flight movie...

I had to check out this season's crowd pleaser Doctor X. Not my cup of tea at all, so unrealistic and cliched it hurts but if you are a Yonekura Ryoko fan you must check it out. They put her in really slutty clothes (for Japanese standards) and she knows how to make them work for her.
But I have to drop this as I drooled like a middle aged ojiisan: the only thing I am enjoying is Yonekura showing her fantastic body on a dance floor. And I'm a straight woman in her 30ties.

I watched the first episode as well. Not believable at all, best to check your brain at the door. Just like fangirls, fanboys will watch anything.

Still working on 9 Gakari (is Tsuda's character getting more and more spastic or is it just my imagination? Crazy ).

Started Naniwa Shonen Tanteidan which is cute, since there's lots of elemetary school kids in this drama, and Tabe Mikako is, well, cute. Bleah

Also started Keishicho Shissonin Sosaka which I happened to find at the DVD rental store while looking for something new to watch (didn't see it in the database here?), and enjoying it so far.
