Same here: I was an art student in high school, but didn't think I was good enough to make a career of it, so I changed majors before college...

Thanks! Smile Drawing women's faces is a real challenge. I know my current style is perhaps too much manga influenced, but I couldn't find any other sweetspot yet...

This fanart thing gave me some insight as to why Juri is gorgeous and funny-looking at the same time. Her eyes are just a little bit farther apart than what's considered ideal. (I know I overdid it a bit in the drawings) And, other than that, her proportions are impeccable.

In hindsight, nearly all her commercial modelling shots are in 3/4 view, aren't they.

If you want to draw, maybe you can give the book "Drawing on the right side of the brain" a try. It's not scientifically accurate, but it helps me a lot.

i like how subtle her mouth is in the center drawing.

"gorgeous and funny-looking" eh? : P the funny part for me is being unable to peg down what her 'normal' look is.. coz it's always changing. i wonder if the distance between her eyes makes her eyes appear bigger.

not sure about the 3/4 view.. i was able to find a fair amount of straight on/face-forward shots in my repository

i'll have to set aside any aspirations for drawing and the visual arts for now.. music's more my thing, and that comes after gaming Bonk

juri art, translated:
--------------------------------------------

2013.03.01

Director Yaguchi and director Kawamura came to visit the set of Sunny Side the other day.

It had been a while, so I was all smiles with the sudden reunion.

I met Koshigaya-san, the author of the original, for the first time too, and we could talk for a while,

which made me really happy.

Together with the pleasure of meeting them again, and talking to them,

I felt how I've been given the precious experience,

of getting to mature in a big way through forging on in this line of work.

I realized once again, that with the joy of creating a new work,

there's also this feeling of gratitude.

I got to do my best, so I may create a work with them again some day.

My fans who support me, and wait for me in anticipation,

I want to continue to deliver wonderful works to you.

Please continue to favour me with your support.

Filming will end real soon. The staff and cast

work hard together enjoying it till the end.

Don't get too carried away about it. I've seen words like, "I got to do my best, so I can work with them again someday", out of the mouths of C-grade idols. A lot of it is the culturally expected thing to say. That doesn't mean it isn't appreciated by those it's directed at though.

One seems to be more of a movie director, and the other a drama director. Keiko has used (senjitsu = the other day, a few days ago) for things that I knew happened over ten days ago, so maybe "in the past days" would fit better in this case, although that might imply that they didn't visit together, when the original implies nothing either way.

English is just too darn precise to translate a vague language like Japanese into.

Juri seems to have a history of bucking cultural expectations : P i was just wondering.. have you noticed any change in the tone of her posts from past years?

if i'm not mistaken, one directed Swing Girls, and the other, Nodame Cantabile.

i've been wondering if the precision of the language is a good thing or a bad thing.. i find it kind of annoying that we have so many words to describe basically the same thing. some words one can use simply to sound more intelligent : P
