I made an impromtu trip to Nara this second time-around to Japan. We only had an afternoon, but I managed to squeeze in the Deer Park and the Todai-ji Temple.

Wynter:

Very nice photos. Reminded me of my visits to Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion) and Todaiji. There are many beautiful temple/shrine complexes in Japan and certainly the Kyoto/Nara area has its share.

At Todaiji, do you remember seeing this sign:

http://www.neverendingvoyage.com/72-random-observations-about-japan/nara_deer_warning/

No warui deer when I visited, but I remember laughing aloud when I saw that sign.

On Miyajima which also has very striking temples and shrines, deer are allowed to roam free everywhere on the island, including in town, but there aren't nearly as many as at Todaiji, and they all seem very serene. In fact I mistook one deer standing in the doorway of shop as being stuffed because it was so still; only when it turned its head did I realize it was live.

LOL! Shin, that sign is priceless! I didn't see it when I was there, but this is perhaps because I was too busy eyeing the deer. There were hundreds, and like you said, they have complete reign over the streets. What was even more surprising than all the deers were the people hired to clean up after them. They had a mighty task to do, but they did it thoroughly.

Japan is like no other when it comes to cleanliness.

I have an app on my phone that I check 1-2 times a day, and let a "WOO!" when I saw that this morning.

Some very nice photos you posted of Nara, Japan. It does bring back so many memories of Japan!
The deer are so unafraid and tame there, and very clean in Japan.

I did exactly that just a little over a year ago. I walked from my hotel, the Conrad Hilton in Higashi-ginza, over to Tsukiji and got in line at a little half past four in the morning. There were already people in line ahead of me. I got so lucky I actually got in during the first seating so I didn't half to wait for more than half an hour to have this glorious meal.

A very fond memory of Tokyo.

So.... I've still got a few (dozen) photos to show from my trip. I'll have a bit of time today for uploads.

I mention taking the Toneri Liner from Adachi-ku quite a bit. This is what it looks like from the outside. Neat driver-less train. This particular day, we're headed to Yokohama to meet one of my motorcycle/entrepreneur friends.

At a large station along the way (sorry, don't remember which one), my friend says she wants to try some chocolate at a shop. So we go to a very far corner, on another floor, to visit this "chocolatier".

All to try this chocolate drink. Was it worth the hike and the 630JPY? Well... not really. Still, it certainly wasn't bad, and it's better than no chocolate at all!

It's a bit of a ride to Yokohama, but there was a train race towards the end that made things more interesting.

We did a bit of sightseeing before meeting up with my friend, and there are plenty of places for that. We went with Harbor View Park.

There is only one thing that HVP has more than steps: Mosquitoes. So if they like your blood type, carry some spray.

The views are certainly worth the effort.

See what I mean? Wish you could see this in the 4000x3000 original. Or better yet, in person!
