Hey, guys, I've been out of the loop for a long time and I'm planning to watch the dramas that I've missed the whole year. The last drama that I watched was Hitori Shizuka.
What are the good dramas of Fall 2012 - Summer 2013 that you can suggest? Thanks!

^ Starting with Fall 2012, there's the Kimtaku drama 'Priceless' and 'Osozaki no Himawari'.
Winter 2013, 'Saikou no Rikon' was good but could have been better IMO. 'Tonbi' was very good, and I also liked 'Ituska Hi no Ataru Basho'. 'Mahoro Ekimae Bangaichi' with Eita and Ryuhei Matsuda was also great.
Spring 2013, 'Galileo 2' was better than I thought it would be.
Summer 2013, 'Hanzawa Naoki' started out great and was a good drama but all the screaming and overacting got to me after awhile. 'Woman' was very good.

Thank you guys for all the great recommendations, I made a great benefit of it, I really appreciate
I watched the japanese drama " Saikou no Rikon = The great divorce " and I enjoyed every single second of it, amazing AMAZING amazing !
Sakamoto Yuji " the screen writer " is a genius in this type of psychological dramas

My question here for a recommendation is a bit unsual I think !
I want to ask for the most catchy/captivating first episode of a japanese drama you have ever watched, the one episode which made you bite your nails, can't sleep before knowing what is next ! even the drama let you down in the later episodes, no problem , top 5 are welcomed
For example, I remember the korean drama " My GF is a gumiho 2010 ", I couldn't sleep before downloading the second episode and then watching it !
I wonder if there are many Japanese drama with that catchy first episode !

The first episode of Hana Yori Dango season 1 is another example of what I mean

well sounds like you're basically lookin' for those great 1st episodes...
in checkin' out what you've already seen~seem to like, i'm gonna side step your request and just recommend what i think you'll like.
first. since you enjoyed 'Saikou no Rikon' so much, check out 'Tokyo Friends'. you'll get to enjoy Eita and Maki Yoko again (the whole cast is great).
'Daisuki!!' is a must.
over-the-top but 'Iryu Team Medical Dragon'.
maybe "Kumo no Kaidan' (since you enjoy med. dramas.)
(you might as well continue with 'Hana Yori Dango 2'.
'Nodame Cantabile', 'My Boss, My Hero', and 'Densha Otoko' if in the mood for comedy.)

I'm a novice to Japanese Drama (with the exception of Kamen Rider, which is Tokusatsu, though) so, what is a series that I could use to break myself in? Something not too long would be fine, even less than twenty episodes. The genre isn't that important, even if maybe I'd like to start with something that is not a tear jerker.

Some people will disagree with my choice on that one, but it was the first drama I ever saw so there's some sentimental bias on my part.
I'm looking for an early 90s drama that shows off Tokyo at the time. It doesn't matter what genre, I just really like the look and feel of the city during this particular period. Does anybody have a recommendation?

So I haven't posted here for like three years (I just checked) that's crazy!
I haven't really watched much JDrama in that time... ironically as soon as I started studying Japanese at Uni I stopped watching Jdrama and started watching Kdrama and English Drama LOLZ! :slaps forehead:
Anyway I've been a graduate for over a year now and am not getting as much Japanese practice as I was, sooooooo I figured it was time I start putting some effort in.
I am looking for some recommendations if anyone can help :-)
My favourite shows are - Nodame Cantabile, Quiz Show 2, Good Luck, Remote, Bloody Monday, Liar Game
I generally like romcoms (especially school ones), mysteries/ investigative (so any good cop or law shows) and fantasy... it's hard to find good fantasy Jdramas but if anyone has any suggestions I'd be appreciative =)
I'm not big on the sad ones so keep them away, I hate crying ;-P _________________

Hanzawa Naoki and Amachan are the two most popular dramas last year, so you can start with those.
A lot of people enjoyed Saikou no Rikon too, I have read.
Yankee kun to Megane chan is the most recent good school rom-com I can think of. Medaka is great I think, if you haven't seen it already. Satorare is another fun rom-com, in a hospital.
Kaibutsu kun and Yokai Ningen Bem are relatively recent fantasy dramas, whether they are enjoyable depends on the viewer though.
