Sanbiki no Ossan Thumbsup Another surprising find. Enjoyable storyline but only eight episodes. mwahaha It has been rare in jdorama these days, besides Saigo Kara Nibanme no Koi, to find funny one-liners.

...have not watched ep.5 of Ganbo yet. I thought it was really unexpected to get hook on more than two dorama this season.

Just finished Guilty: Akuma to Keiyakushita Onna... wow, what an ending. I kinda expected it, but still... it was damn sad. Kanno Miho was very good in this, it was downright freaky when she was in that sort of mode. I wish there had been a bit more response from Meiko to Mashima - I understand why she can't or won't allow herself to, but c'mon, how could she resist Tamaki Hiroshi in a white shirt? Naughty

Broody, intense Tamaki was delish In love Smitten He definitely needed a haircut and a wardrobe change throughout the drama, though. Miraculously, in the last few minutes of the final episode, his hair condition improved and it was no longer a mop, but sexy bedroom hair... oh the mystery ...

Haha, well I liked it enough, but then again I'm on a Tamaki Hiroshi high, so I'm a bit biased now Mr Green I do have to say though that he and Kanno Miho don't quite have that kind of spark - they've worked well together in the dramas I've seen them together (Itoshi Kimie e, Guilty, Kekkon Shinai) and they're a very good-looking pair, but it's not quite along the lines of what he had with Ueno Juri. Perhaps it's because of the dramas themselves and how the characters were written.

But I love how versatile Tamaki is Smitten Cool! and that voice of his is just downright sexy. It's a shame he doesn't get to headline more dramas. He's been in a number of tanpatsu, but I want to see him in more 11-episoders.

Beach Boys was lovely the first time round, but I'm kinda allergic to Hirosue Ryoko, so I haven't rewatched it in ages.

I've started Shikaotoko Aoniyoshi - the first episode cracked me up. Tamaki is so good at being the downtrodden, unfortunate guy who keeps getting every misfortune heaped on him. He has a good vibe with Ayase Haruka, so I hope the episodes get better.

That's a nice little drama. Applaud

I think a lot of people might have skipped it because they thought "A talking deer! Gimme a break!" But it really works. I liked that they shot it in Nara instead of the usual Tokyo/Hokkaido/fictional little town in the sticks that it seems like every other drama is shot in.

And never mind Ayase, what about Yuki Shibamoto!! HOT! Although if you're only on episode 1 I don't think she's showed up yet.

She appeared briefly in episode 1, but I've just finished episode 2 and can understand why you think she's hot, haha. Lady needs a better hairstyle than centre-parting, though.

I'm enjoying the drama and Tamaki is killing it with his expressions, he really cracks me up. Nara seems like a really lovely city, and there are so many deer! It's kind of awesome that they get to wander freely around, you wouldn't really see that of animals in a lot of cities these days.

@junny- Think I might need to do a Tamaki run.

Only two dramas where Hirosue doesn't give me hives. Beach Boys and Slow Dance. The male leads were strong enough to even overshadow her enough. Just why is she so intensely annoying? But she is. Watching Here Is Greenwoord for my last thing at night right now still wanting to see the end. Shameful Cry

Eve, I totally agree on a Tamaki run hehe I am really enjoying Shikaotoko Aoniyoshi, such a wonderfully quirky drama that's surely underrated!

Hirosue annoyed me as early as Long Vacation, but it peaked at Beach Boys and I don't know how I managed to sit through Slow Dance - I kept wanting to take a club to her stupid character.

Episode 6 of 'Zoku. Saigo Kara'. Unless this completely falls apart this will be one of those rarest of the rare, a sequel as good as the original. Applaud

Just finished episode 8 of Shikaotoko Aoniyoshi, it is such a clever gem of a drama! I love how everything has tied in together so far, the folklore, history, little twists and character studies... really neat. Two episodes to go, I hope the ending will be good!

Loving the characters a lot, and really rooting for Tamaki Hiroshi's luckless Ogawa sensei! I also find Shige-san fascinating, in that he doesn't appear often but whatever he says carries quite a lot of meaning.

The subs have been fantastic and contributed a lot to my enjoyment! I wonder if the novel on which the drama is based has been translated into English?

Life is not all peacoats. Wink

OT: Episode 5 of 'Hanasaki Mai'. This thing is getting excellent ratings and I can't figure out why. It's okay but not really anything special. I can think of at least 3 or 4 dramas this Spring that are better IMO. Maybe Japanese audiences just have a thing for bank related dramas. Head Scratch

All my favourite dramas this summmer have single digit ratings too. Puppy Dog Eyes

The episode plots from Hanasaki Mai kind of fizzle out after a few episodes. I lost my interest although the two leads have been my favourites. Surprisingly, Odagiri Joe's two dramas this season are more interesting to watch. The comedian who spent 10k yen to look for the person who brought him his bento every night was hilarious.

Six episodes now, I still can't figure out how the fraud in Ganbo works... ...

Bitter Blood should really be renamed. It is bloody funny. It reminds me of Odoru Daisousasen. They should make it a all male cast, I thought. Am I the only one to say the father is sexier in his suit than the son?
I love that grandpa, dad and son episode.

hehe Glad he shares the sentiment!

Finished Shikaotoko Aoniyoshi, what a fantastic drama! Thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it, really neat. The "my shika" scene was superb, loved how it tied in with the general scheme of things. The deer is hilarious and I love his interactions with Ogawa, and then later his smackdown by Fujiwara, hahaha. Acting was good all round and I'm really glad that Tamaki Hiroshi took on this role, loved how versatile he is. The kendo scenes were fantastic - as a sports fan, I could feel the tension and loved how the whole school rallied around Hotta in the end. Usually sports is done kinda mehhh in dramas, but this one was great.

The ending theme song is awesome, I could put it on repeat and never tire of it. Really gives that extra oomph to the drama and made me want to keep watching. I wish I could find the OST somewhere and download but it seems the links are dead, sigh. Anyway, have a listen on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uszzRucvDpU

The only grouse I have is:

Episode 7 of 'Ganbo' and I also am still confused about exactly what they're doing. It's been pretty lighthearted up until now but with episode 7 things start to get serious.

'Ganbo' is on pace to set a record for the lowest ratings ever by a 'Gatsu 9' drama and I think the reason is nobody can understand what these people do. They really need to do a better job of explaining what this group is all about.

Been to busy with all the other dramas so I haven't had a chance to see any of 'Bitter Blood' yet. I guess I'll start on it once I get some of these others finished.

Episode 6 of 'MOZU'. Up to this point it had been fairly confusing although episode 5 had one of the best chase/fight sequences I've seen in awhile.

But a lot was explained in episode 6 and it's starting to make sense now. Definitely not for the squeamish. Quentin Tarantino would really like this.
