Wed, December 15, 2010
NHK is reviving its 2007 morning drama series "Dondo Hare" with a sequel that will be aired as a special program next year. Production on the show was announced at a press conference on Wednesday, attended by the drama's lead actress, Manami Higa.

"Dondo Hare" averaged 19.4% ratings during its original broadcast run. Higa starred as a young woman named Natsumi who was raised in Yokohama but ends up becoming the head okami of a long-established inn in the Iwate prefecture.

The new drama takes place some time after the original story, though details have not yet been revealed. NHK plans to broadcast the show on its satellite channel BS Premium, which begins operation in April 2011.

Cool. I thought she didn't have a forum. Just finished Code Blue and I have turned on substalker mode. Haha!

Found her video blogs and I am now smitten. Hudathunk that Saejima would be played by someone as bubbly as her.

Hai Sai? I sigh...

Higa Manami gets first starring role on the big screen
August 15, 2011

Actress Higa Manami is set to take on her first starring movie role in gTobe! Dakota,h directed by Aburatani Seiji. The film is based on a true story about an incident involving a British plane that had to make an emergency landing in Japan just after World War II.

In January 1946, a British military transport plane headed from Shanghai to Tokyo was forced to make an emergency landing on Sado Island in the Niigata prefecture. Because of the war, the people of Sado had been subjected to propaganda about the British and American soldiers, so the arrival of the plane was unwelcome. In the end, it took 40 days before the plane could take off again.

Higa plays the part of a woman named Hattori Chiyoko, the daughter of the family that ran the Hattori Ryokan where 5 of the planefs 8 crew members stayed. Chiyoko, who had just returned home from the volunteer corps, worked hard to take care of the 5 guests, from making meals and doing laundry to providing them mental comfort with records of British songs. She even bought English conversation books on her own in order to speak with them.

Producers plan to shoot the entire movie on Sado Island, starting in January. The release date is tentatively set for September 2012. It is also said that the movie may be screened at film festivals in other countries.

Manami Higa to star in new WOWOW drama

Higa Manami will be starring in the new WOWOW drama "Honjitsu wa, Ohigara mo yoku" which will be shown from 14 January 2017 in the Saturdays 10pm timeslot. The drama which is based on the 2010 novel "Anmaku no Gerunika" by Harada Maha that was one of the nominees for the 155th Naoki Award and had sold more than 300,000 copies to date, features Higa as the lead character Ninomiya Konoha who has no particular dream nor goal in life and unwittingly enters the world of speech writing after attending her childhood friend Imakawa Atsushi's (Watanabe Dai) wedding. There, she meets the legendary speech writer Kudo Kumi (Hasegawa Kyoko) and is so impressed by her ability to write good speeches. As such, she becomes a student of Kumi and later becomes the speech writer for Atsushi who decides to stand for election.

Higa commented that Kotoha is almost like a replica of herself as they are both frank and clumsy so she felt comfortable playing the character. Although everyone has been using words since they were young, this is a drama which re-emphasizes the importance of words and its ability to bring warmth and gentleness to people's hearts.

Co-stars also include Ishibashi Renji, Yachigusa Kaoru, Hayami Mokomichi and Funakoshi Eiichiro.
