37-sai de Isha ni Natta Boku ~Kenshui Junjo Monogatari~ [37歳で医者になった僕〜研修医純情物語〜]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Started off pretty good -- I'm a sap for naive, idealistic themes I guess. Later episodes dragged -- held together and kept my interest just because of Mimura (especially from flashbacks) and Mizukawa Asami's presence.
Ace wo Nerae! [エースをねらえ!]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
Alright. I liked Attack No.1 better.
Akihabara@DEEP [アキハバラ@DEEP]
Rating: 4/10 (Watched)
Only watch if you're interested in otaku culture...like me.
Attack No.1 [アタック No.1]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Not bad -- most of the performances fell victim to over-acting; but overall the story and theme were enjoyable.
Bambino! [バンビーノ!]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
If it didn't start slowly...
Bara no nai Hanaya [薔薇のない花屋]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
My top 3 dorama of all time...something that I can recommend to EVERYONE.
Boku to Star no 99 Nichi [僕とスターの99日]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
IMHO, the show actually was buoyed by the strength of the supporting cast, in this case: Ganmo, Hijin, Junkichi, and Teson -- that's why towards the end it was so slow. Even the paparazzi Kazuya was *great* in his supporting role. Everything else was just average. Oh, and the OST is really good.
Boku, Unmei no Hito desu [Boku, Unmei no Hito desu.]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Enjoyable fluff. Wished the ending was better.
BOSS
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Good but not great.
Boys on the Run [ボーイズ・オン・ザ・ラン]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
I would like to thank Boys on The Run for introducing me to Taira Airi (actually, I first saw her in HanaKimi but she is much more memorable here); she made the dorama watchable. The producers & director did a good job of hooking me from episode to episode even with an EXTREMELY annoying protagonist. His bowel movements (once you start watching you'll understand) irritated the crap out of me (pun intended). Overall a semi-enjoyable dorama -- for it's ending and Taira Airi. If you take that away, I would probably have dropped it, or scored it below 5 (which means it wasted my time and I rather not have watched it).
Busu no Hitomi Koishiteru [ブスの瞳恋してる]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Buzzer Beat ~ Gakeppuchi no Hero [ブザー・ビート]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
It almost seems like everything YamaPi is in turns out AT LEAST borderline awesome. Only gripe, wished the bball sequences were more believable.
Code Blue: Doctor Heli Kinkyu Kyumei [コード・ブルー]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Daisuki!! [だいすき!!]
Rating: 9/10
Danda Rin ~ Roudou Kijun Kantokukan [ダンダリン 労働基準監督官]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
Interesting topic to devote a whole drama series on. It was mildly entertaining. Eye candy Treindl Reina held it afloat as much as she could.
Densha Otoko [電車男]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
One of my first JDoramas -- loved every part of it. Movie was better though.
Don Quixote [ドン★キホーテ]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Was ok. Good laughs, but nothing life changing. Ending was definitely funny with Nishi-yan and Hyodo.
Double kitchen [ダブルキッチン]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Dragon Zakura [ドラゴン桜]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
It's like an all-star cast ensemble! Wished the ending was better -- but still good.
Engine [エンジン]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
I've seen better. Wished that the ending was a little more that what it was.
First Kiss [ファースト・キス]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Garasu no Ashi [硝子の葦]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Maybe the best performance by Aibu Saki (I adore her). Good drama but not one that has re-watchability.
Gokusen [ごくせん]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Storyline was disjointed but overall very funny and well produced.
GTO [麻辣教師]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Guilty Akuma to Keiyakushita Onna [ギルティ 悪魔と契約した女]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Interesting -- liked Kanno Miho in a antagonist/protagonist role. Loved the ending.
Hachimitsu to Kuroba [ハチミツとクローバー]
Rating: 4/10 (Watched)
Nothing special. Cast was great, but storyline was boring. Only exposure to Honey and Clover is through this drama -- can't see how the manga, anime or whatever medium could fare any better to this storyline. Narumi Riko was nice to oogle over -- only positive for me.
Hana Yori Dango [花より男子]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Enjoyable -- but still unbelieveable.
Hana Yori Dango Season 2 [花より男子]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Himitsu [秘密]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Crazy, thought provoking -- Shida Mirai was very convincing, IMHO.
Hoshi no kinka 1 [星の金貨]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Hotaru no Hikari [ホタルノヒカリ]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Hungry! [ハングリー!]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
I can never look at a rock band and not think of a kitchen staff ever again. Vice versa. LOL. Loved the drama. Gives the impression that good food solves "most" problems -- I guess that's what food dorama have to play to. The female leads -- both Takimoto Miori AND Kuninaka Ryoko were adorable. One person I could definitely do without was Mutsuko. :| Definitely worth watching!
Ie Uru Onna [家売るオンナ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Better than expected
Iguana no musume [イグアナの娘]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
Ima Ai ni Yukimasu [いま会いにゆきます]
Rating: 10/10
One of my top dorama of all time -- cried every episode. The addition of the mom compared to the movie was different.
JIN [JIN-仁-]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Was a really good drama, but in the end they didn't tie up any of the plot holes. If it just ended cleanly rather than leave plot holes, it would've been perfect.
JIN Season 2
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Great conclusion! Loved how they tied everything up -- VERY satisfying.
Juhan Shuttai! [重版出来!]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Funny, feel good dorama but not necessarily memorable. Good time.
Juui Dolittle [獣医ドリトル]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
The best vet/pet dorama I've watched, if that says much, LOL. Honestly speaking though, it was definitely worth the watch, and the human side of things made it that much more enjoyable.
Jyoou no Kyoushitsu [女王の教室]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
Top 3
Kamisama mou sukoshi dake [神様、もう少しだけ]
Rating: 2/10 (Watched)
Intriguing...but she is a slut. Only reason it didn't get a 1 is because of the great ending.
Kangoku no Ohimesama [監獄のお姫さま]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Super enjoyable. Mystery and resolution was lame but the character development was superb.
Kaseifu no Mita [家政婦のミタ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Interesting. Reminds me of Joou no Kyoushitsu -- but not as gripping. Definitely fun moments as well as tear jerks here and there but NOT awesome like everyone says. Love the cast though -- anything with Aibu Saki really, LOL.
Kasuka na Kanojo [幽かな彼女]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Got better as the DORAMA went on and ended on a high note. One of those doramas that start off slow and end well but nothing really life shattering. Agreed with a few other commenters -- Kawai-sensei with her short hemlines kept things interesting but was just so-so. Still, was a good watch.
Kekkon Dekinai Otoko [結婚できない男]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Kekkon Shinai [結婚しない]
Kiina ~ Fukano Hanzai Sosakan [キイナ]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Very similar to Galileo -- believable solutions to mysteries.
Kimi to ita mirai no tame ni ~ airu bi bakku [?N???]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Very good performances from a great cast. Story was very engaging from start to finish. Somehow these older dorama seems like they hold more meaning than the ones today.
Kindaichi Shonen no Jikembo Season 3 [金田一少年の事件簿 3]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Was good...very Trick-like
Kogane no Buta [黄金の豚]
Koibumi [恋文~私たちが愛した男]
Konkatsu! [婚カツ!]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Didn't feel the chemistry between the two leads. Was one of those doramas that I actually had laugh-out-loud moments -- definitely seen better but, still enjoyable and worth the time.
Kurosagi [クロサギ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Lady Joker [レディ・ジョーカー]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Damn captivating and kept my attention throughout. Ending is a little lack luster but not at all disappointing if you catch my drift. Motokariya Yuika will always be my favorite eye candy -- right ahead of Aibu Saki. :)
Last Christmas [ラストクリスマス]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Just a step below the top dramedies -- definitely something I could see myself watching every xmas with a loved one.
Last Cinderella [ラスト シンデレラ]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Was ok. If not for Shinohara Ryoko, would be ranked lower.
Last Friends [ラスト・フレンズ]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Was funny in a satirical way.
Legal High [リーガル・ハイ]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Definitely entertaining. Actually, I take that back -- funny as hell. It's been a while since I have found myself laughing out loud like this. The apex definitely is not the last case but the second to the last, when we have Komikado give that crazy @$$ motivational speech -- unforgettable. Could have ended better is my only complaint -- loved Masato Sakai and Aragaki Yui were perfect in their roles.
Liar Game [ライアーゲーム]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
LIAR GAME Season 2 [ライアーゲーム 2]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Last game was confusing -- needed closer to get a better score.
LIFE [ライフ]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Crazy!
Long vacation [ロングバケーション]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Love Shuffle [ラブシャッフル]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Hooks you really fast. Twists and turns towards the end which makes it interesting. No melodrama -- which may be good or bad.
Maou [魔王]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Marumo no Okite [マルモのおきて]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Very endearing. There's one annoying scene that is constantly repeated for the first three episodes, but other than that very well paced. Although out of all my experiences watching DORAMA, I still do not get why all the main characters run during important scenes -- even when it seems impossible (like catching up to a car). Ending was fantastic (you gotta watch to the part where they do the advert for the DVD boxset -- Mook's announcement, LOL). Can't wait for the special!
Mitsu no Aji ~A Taste Of Honey~ [蜜の味~A Taste Of Honey~]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
Great performances by the whole cast! I was leery of this drama after reading spoilers and watching the first episode but glad I was proven wrong. Subject matter may be hard to swallow for those that chastise the premise and like the other reviewers, will be very polarizing, but definitely worth your time. I rarely give out 10/10 -- to deserve it not only must everything fall into place (e.g., performance, pacing, story, rewatchability) the story somehow must change my outlook on life, and this one definitely does.
Mop Girl [モップガール]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Would've scored higher if not for the ending...
My Boss, My Hero [マイボスマイヒロ]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Must watch for school comedies -- made me laugh like crazy. Definitely re-watchable.
My Girl [マイガール]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Little girl Koharu stole the show. First few episodes were very frustrating in regards to Masamune -- but from there the show picks up. Unlike what others said, I liked the side characters -- all the performances were strong. Aibe started off shaky but definitely got better in the acting department. How else is he suppose to portray Masamune?! However, with everything said, I still prefer the father-son/father-daughter interaction in Ima, Ai Ni Yukimasu and Bara no Nai Hanaya (respectively). Child acting performance I would rank 1) Koharu 2) Yuji 3) Shizuku
Ninkyo Helper [任侠ヘルパー]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Meisa is my new eye candy of the week. Story is engrossing -- definite cliffhangers and sensible plot. Wish the ending was peppier.
Nobunaga Kyousoukyoku [信長協奏曲]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Other similar dramas do this story better.
Nobuta wo Produce [野ブタ。をプロデュース]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
If it didn't start so slowly and end in such a weird way...
Nodame Cantabile [のだめ カンタビ−レ]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Has to be one of the better comedies -- I would imagine if you knew a little more about classical music it would be much more enjoyable -- but even for a tone-deaf guy like me it was awesome.
Oishii Kankei [おいしい關係]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
Papa to Musume no Nanokakan [パパとムスメの7日間]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
The dad's acting was above average -- if it was excellent, then I would've given this a 9!
Proposal Daisakusen [プロポーズ大作戦]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
I'm not sure why people rag on the ending so much, it was wonderful!
Quartet [カルテット]
Rating: 8/10
Really enjoyable splice of life but the ending could've been better. Ending song stood out immensely. BTW, I adore Mitsushima Hikara too. :)
Rich Man, Poor Woman [リッチマン、プアウーマン]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
It was a good watch. Interest was built up all because of Aibu Saki -- but man, her style here is a little to "glamorous" for my tastes. Anyway, after the first episode, had HIGH hopes but as the dorama continued it became trite. Doesn't mean it's not enjoyable, but it could have been so much more.
Rikuou [陸王]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
started off great (especially b/c of my running background) but ended flat.
Ryokiteki na Kanojo [猟奇的な彼女]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Worth watching...but still not as good as the original My Sassy Girl movie
Ryusei no Kizuna [流星の絆]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Saikou no Rikon [最高の離婚]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
I agree with most of the sentiment of the other reviewers. Witty dialog and ended up liking everyone of the main four. Never thought I would say that since Eita's character came off as super annoying. Definitely got better towards the middle episodes and the climax is definitely Ep. 9. Just like everyone said, went for the "safe" ending which just honestly doesn't make sense. Oh wells, I had a great time. Been a while since I laughed out loud, teared, and had to rethink my views on life, love, and marriage. Last episode is definitely a downer IMHO -- if only they went a little more radical. And yes, everyone please watch the ending credits -- it's HILARIOUS.
Sekai no chuushin de, ai wo sakebu [世界の中心で、愛をさけぶ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Outstanding melodrama -- but can't see myself watching it again. First time through was worth it.
Shika Otoko Aoniyoshi [鹿男あをによし]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Was interesting -- good fantasy/mystery with good performances and no loop holes (thank god).
Shinzanmono [新参者]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Definitely super interesting and enjoyable. Tear jerker at the end of nearly every episode -- very heart felt. Plus, one of the few mystery doramas where I couldn't predict the ending.
Shiroi Haru [白い春]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
For a parent-child drama, performance from kid actually underwhelmed. Redeeming quality was the ending -- realistic and heartfelt.
Smile [スマイル]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Really good acting all around -- but the story is really depressing.
Soredemo, Ikite Yuku [それでも、生きてゆく]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
OUTSTANDING cast...all the performances were amazing. Story was well written and the middle episodes had me captivated. Just keep in mind it is not your typical laugh, funny, fuzzy, tearjerker kinda dorama -- much more depth and hits hard.
SP [エスピー]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Ends on a cliff hanger. Score would be higher if special was part of drama package.
Suzuki Sensei [鈴木先生]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
I was waiting for JDorama to add Suzuki Sensei to their listing -- took them FOREVER! The dorama was AWESOME! Definitely will change your outlook on life. Loved how it shows Suzuki Sensei sorting out situations in his head before acting. Villain that is not necessarily evil, and a protagonist that is flawed leads to characters that are very believable and relate-able. One of the best endings in a DORAMA. Definitely stands out from other classroom dorama greats like Jyoou no Kyoushitsu and GTO while maintaining the same gist.
Taiyo to Umi no Kyoshitsu [太陽と海の教室]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Similar to GTO, Gokusen, Joou no Kyoushitsu, Dragon Zakura ... just not as good -- the message wasn't as clear.
Team Batista no Eiko [チーム・バチスタの栄光]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Tiger & Dragon [タイガー&ドラゴン]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Tokkyu Tanaka 3 Go [特急田中3号]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Tokujo Kabachi!! [特上カバチ !!]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Interesting and funny -- almost like a mystery in a way since I really wanted to know how they'll solve their cases. Definitely got me more aware of sexual harassment after episode 8. Maki and Sho were cute at the end.
Toshishita No Otoko [年下之男]
Rating: 4/10 (Watched)
Crazy! In not a good way.
Trick [トリック]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Loved all the mystery solving -- but the ending left much to be desired.
Tsuki no Koibito [月の恋人]
Rating: 4/10 (Watched)
Didn't care for the story too much. Redeeming factor was the ending -- liked. Shinohara Ryoko (Maemi) was amazing -- over the rest of the female cast. Kitagawa Keiko was cute -- and Xiu Mei's character was just poor -- ending up fast forwarding all scenes with her towards the end. Watching Shinzanmono before this super spoiled me.
Unnatural [アンナチュラル]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
First 10/10 dorama in ages. AMAZING. Engaged me from beginning to end. Few plot holes here and there, but minor...all major points came across in a most satisfying way! Read some of the other critiques...maybe I don't watch too many of these types of medical doramas, but I do still think this is one of the best overall doramas for me. Great to see that no one is an imbecile (e.g., the department head, the police, etc.).
Ushi ni Negai wo: Love & Farm [牛に願いを - Love & Farm]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Voice [ヴォイス]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Better than expected.
Watashitachi no kyokasho [わたしたちの教科書]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Yami no Bansosha [闇の伴走者]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Good pacing and story. Good but not great.
Yasuko to Kenji [ヤスコとケンジ]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Yume wo Kanaeru Zo [夢をかなえるゾウ]
Zenkai Girl [全開ガール]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
I can't accept who Urara-搶 ended up with! ^^ Child performances again make up for a predictable drama. Although many of the situations are unbelievable AND predictable, nonetheless was enjoyable.
Zettai Kareshi [絶対彼氏]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Aibu Saki is so cute! Unbelievable, but very enjoyable -- made me lose sleep -- watched from ep.4->END non-stop!
