For a while I was watching Naruto, but then after seeing how slow it was progressing was turned me off. The same for the manga as well. There just isn't enough character and focus on plot development.
FMA is great though, course I feel kinda guilty since I first really started watching it since Porno Graffitti did the original opening. I had read the first 2 volumes of the manga, and was expecting the anime to be not up to par. Fortunately, I was wrong completely. Some of the sequence of events're changed, but definitely for the better. Progression is at a perfect pace as well. None of this 3 episodes for one ninja battle crap.
GITS SAC 1 and 2. AHHH... what a gem. Shirow Masamune plot, along with a Yoko Kanno theme song. Of course you have to watch each episodes atleast twice to be able to follow, it sure is worth the time and effort. And ep 12 of GITS SAC2. wow.... wow............. _________________

I havent seen GITS SAC 1 or 2 yet but I heard its good but slow. As for Naruto, yeah, it has ALOT of flashbacks which I hate (i usually fast-forward it ) but when it starts to focus on naruto's battle, now that's REALLY entertaining. hehehe _________________
I never watched the anime but definetly has alot of flash backs but there the story makes sense, like Sasuke's past, why Sakura hates Ino,etc. The 23 book is taking quite a while...

Haven't seen a good anime series since Planetes ended. Kinda sad... _________________

Have you seen Kurau Phantom Memory? I got a couple episodes off of Usenet. The animation style seems quite similar to Planetes. The story seems decent too. Kenran Butoh Sai is also in the science fiction genre, and might appeal to you too.
There's a bunch of new samurai anime:
Shura no toki, Samurai 7, Samurai Champloo, Otogizoushi
I just saw a preview for "Beyond the Clouds" from the group Triad, and it looks promising.

From what I've seen of Champloo, it's mostly style, no substance. It is quite innovative, though. Samurai 7...robots in 7 Samurai mode? No thanks...Kenran Butoh Sai is a take off of Gunparade March (same world, I think). It might be decent. Haven't heard of Otogizoushi nor the others. I'll have to check those out... _________________

i'm a bit out-of-date on new animes. I'm not familiar with any that vibius mentioned.
There's always new ones coming out, is it possible to keep up?
Of the ones I mentioned, I like Kurau and Shura no Toki. I haven't seen too many episodes yet though.
Samurai 7 is ... odd, it's (very loosely) based on Kurosawa's Seven Samurai story, but it replaces all the good stuff with weird stuff like steam powered Samurai robots. Some lines are exactly like the movie, but then they leave out the best parts. I imagine people with good taste would take serious offense at this anime
The previews for "Beyond the Clouds" look nice. It's from the guy who did "Hoshi no Koe", so I have hopes it will be a good story.

My favorite was VI. 7 was ok, 8 i couldn't really stand. I liked the characters, but I hated actually playing. Strange magic system and you gotta wait a year for summon animations to finish x.x. I didn't play 9 or X-2, and I havent' finished X. So far I like X about as much as 7. And I really liked XI also. In fact, I liked it so much I had to delete it. Too addicting.

FFXI = who needs a story when we can charge people ridiculous amounts of money to do ultra-repetitive actions ala Ultima Online?
Well, actually there is a story, but you need to get far into the game before you get to the real plot elements. But there's lots of stuff to do until you get there (maybe too much stuff to do). Anyway, Tarutaru are sickeningly cute. I mean, I know I should be disgusted at the cuteness overload, being a guy and all, but damn, those little people are just hella adorable. Argh!

Well..I have been watching animes since I was small. It all started with dragon ball, ranma, city hunter and sailor moon. after that it just continued.
but latley there hasn't been any new show that I really like. My favourits are One Piece, Naruto, Cromartie, Azumanga and Scryed. of course I have watched many more but they weren't as good as the named ones
but nowadays I prefere to read the manga instead of watching the anime..

hehehe.
I had hoshi no koe before but havent watched it yet. Anyway, watched Naruto special and the fight scenes are nice but i had to fast-forward often to get around those flashbacks... _________________
