Watched episode 3...wow, this show is getting better and better with each coming show. Makes me want to slap the Japanese people who aren't watching it with these piss-poor excuse of ratings it's been getting.

I'd have to agree on this being one of Tomoya's dramas, but I'm also finding myself impressed with both Saki's and Ryuta's performances as well (especially since the only other series I've watched of Ryuta is Bambino!, this is a huge departure from the Katori character).

I'm looking forward to the remainder of this series wholeheartedly!

Count me in. It's very lame to know that they avoid watching this drama because the dialect used in this drama is Tosa-ben. It's one of the dialects in Japan, for God sake.
I'm very much impressed with Sato Ryuta's character in this too. He can pull such a cool character in the first 2 episodes, giving an impression of this arrogant and strong guy.

But..

Watching episode 3 Victory! Peace! Big Grin shame though that some jokes may get lost with the subbing.
I think the dialect is cute (from what I can grasp and that is very little! Shameful Cry )

And probably the most under-rated dorama of the season, just because people got turned off by the use of Tosa-ben. Sad

This is my #1 this season.
Beats the generic Galileo hands down with it's atmosphere. I'm kind of.. debating with myself how to compare this with ώt [Shigehoshi], because that one is SO weird.. But I'm more fond of Utahime, nevertheless.

I've been totally hooked to Utahime the whole time, and the series just keep getting better and better.
It has got the feeling of "the good old days", being really relaxing, refreshing and kind of.. totally giving a break from the busy life. It's like diving into another universe and the warm humour and the small, planned details are total love.
A true jewel this season, I'm disappointed for the ratings (or maybe I should just be angry with the person who decided on this drama's airing time? Crazy ).

And the theme song is pretty much gorgeous. It's kind of 'gloomy' by it's image, but it has a positive message nevertheless.
For those interested, I've translated the song into English:
TOKIO: t ~SEISYuN~-lyrics (romaji + English)

Of course! I love Kansai-ben (Kanjani8 are Kansai-jins and so does Ohkura), and Tosa-ben is one of those! w00t!

Hmm.. This dorama is getting good feedback here. Oh well, ratings cannot be trusted because it is not the true picture of the quality of the drama

The drama has ended yesterday and I ended up crying a bucket over the finale. It was THAT good. I am impressed deeply by everyone's characters and the actings..the best that you can find in one drama for this season.

Thanks to Geezer, I was able to watch this series. I was pleasantly surprised by it.

First of all, it's one of the few post-2000 dorama I've seen that has both a script which shows a pretty good degree of craftsmanship and a cast which demonstrates more good acting than bad acting.

I am not a fan of Tomoya Nagase; in the couple of dorama I've seen him in, I thought he was pretty much of a one-trick pony actor and not a particularly good one at that. However, in Utahime, I thought he did a good job portraying a multi-dimensional character; in this series at least, he showed himself to be an actor and not just a guy mugging for the camera (although he did do some of that as well).

The actresses I thought in this dorama as a whole gave much stronger performances than the actors. Saki Aibu was very engaging as Suzu; Yuki Saito provided good comic relief as Sabako, and Jun Fubuki as always gave a solid performance as the mother. The biggest surprise to me (after Nagase) was Eiko Koike's performance as Miwako. She came on initially as comic relief, but as the series continued, developed into an earnest sympathetic character. I had seen Koike in a couple of other works where she was at times ludicrously bad, but in Utahime, she showed some acting chops in being able to handle both comedic and dramatic scenes.

The fact that series took place in Tosa where my paternal grandfather was from was an added bonus for me (not very many series are set there, much less anywhere in Shikoku).

Overall, a pretty good dorama which puts it miles ahead of much of the what is being churned out in recent years.

I liked this dorama alot. It capitalized on the Showa boom popularized by the film Always san-chome. The supporting cast was great and I really did gooble this show up quite fast...which isn't something I do very often these days because nothing really entices me to that extent.

I really liked a lot of the characters like Mary...the bar owner...and the oyabun....Furuya Ikko...the father from Dinner on Thursdays...just to name a few.

I like this one. I thought it would take a while before I finish it, but I was wrong. This is somethign worth watching. really. Some may say it's kinda boring at first but I didn't felt it at all. Well I guess, I got biased with the 2 lead cast. hehe
