Hm, I wonder why no one thought of this topic before...

Long Vacation:

Ever wondered why Momoko always refered to Sena as "Ailton Sena"? As it turns out, it's actually "Ayrton Senna". He was a popular race car driver in the mid-90's until his untimely death in 1994. I guess it kinda makes sense since Long Vacation was one of the trendy drama's at the time and mentioned some pop-culture icons.

I also never understood why Momoko called Sena that when his real name is Hidetoshi. Pet name perhaps? Btw, this is another one of those ever wonder why questions since they only mention his given name ONCE during the whole drama which is at the end.

Hmm, interesting...

The late, great Ayrton Senna was a three-time Formula One World Champion in the mid-80's. He's the career leader in pole position with 65 and is a revered figured in Brazil (ask Betsy-chan). He's also much revered in Japan as well, as he won all three of his World Championships with McLaren-Honda. He died in 1994 when the steering failed in his Williams-Renault and he hit a concrete barrier at nearly 150mph in San Marino, Italy. Puppy Dog Eyes

Is Heart Sports the Nike of Japan (though I'm sure there is a Nike Japan) or is it just coincidence that Oda Yuji works for them in both Tokyo Love Story and Last Christmas?

I can't remember if it was here or another Japanese drama forum that there are many other connections between the two dramas.

Yeah Senna was perhaps my favorite driver 'til he passed. He was arguably the most skilled driver alive... and definitely the best driver in the world when the track conditions were rainy or wet.

That race course in Italy... I recall before the accident that many of the teams complained that it was too dangerous.

Senna himself complained. But those stupid dogs didn't listen to him, and the rest you all know ...

Yes yes. Donington in '93 was a classic example of Senna's incredible control in the wet... The most amazing race I ever saw...

Tamburello was an extremely high speed corner in San Marino and not nearly enough protection was there in case of a driver losing control... I think they stuck a chicane in there now... But too late. Sad

HAhAHAA, I was wondering if they were even real. I remember once when I was typesetting for one of the episodes that a piece of paper had www.heart-sports.com written on it. So being curious I tried to visit the site and it's not even there. I guess it was just made up for Last Christmas. I mean seriously, with Shintani Goro as the future president, how could that company go anywhere? hehe hehe

>>Already knew about the Airuton Senna thing...<< hehe

As for the Heart-sports thing, I read over at d-addicts that the writers are the same for both Tokyo Love Story and Last Xmas. And Heart-sports is an inside joke (reference) thing. Beaten

while you guys are on the topic of coincidences from japanese dramas ... i just finished watching asunaro hakusho and was stunned to hear that kitagawa eriko re-used a character name. for those of you that haven't watched asunaro hakusho yet, one of the main characters, kakei tamotsu, has a girlfriend named Machida Kyoko (you have to watch carefully because she only introduces herself once with her full name). does that name sound familar? for any of you that watched beautiful life it should. that's the same name of tokiwa takako's character in BL. for one of j-drama's premier drama writers, i didn't think that she'd re-use character names like that.
