yeah... let's face it, he is skinny... but it is not enough reason to just bash the person~ you don't really know him. I know him alot more than you guys cause I've been a Kame fan for 2 and a half years now... I spend my everyday on finding bits of facts about him, and you guys don't know how he works so hard for this. He is a hard working type of person so it is normal for him to have a body like that... and he is a JE, most of JE have that body. He still have his boxing training again for Dream Boys 2008 (a stage play). Why bash the guy that is skinny because of work?
And if you really think that being a boxer doesn't suit him, then it's okay. but don't bash the guy that you don't even know...

And about the drama... Kousoku there is a boxer that needs the weight 50lbs. And Kame's weight there is already 47lbs so he trained more and ate just a bit so he could weigh 50lbs. And Kousoku is fighting for Light Feather Weight in the manga for your information. So why do you guys still think that he doesn't fit in the role?

If you guys only knew what difficulties he went through the past few years of his career~

Sorry, about this everyone... but as a Kame fan, I need to support him in my little ways... sorry...

...so based on that, I can say Tackey was amazing in Yoshitsune because he spent very much time in learning everything, most of JE-boys are like that and boy was his Junior-period in JE tough?
Right.

If Kamenashi doesn't fit the role, then he doesn't.
This drama is basically meant for Kamenashi's fans to watch (as I had suspected from the very beginning) and they will probably like it (I think the majority of his Japanese fans that I've seen commenting the drama online said they wouldn't give it a glance if it wasn't for him half-naked on screen for the most), but seen the first episode his acting and being like it usually is:
He really does try hard, but it doesn't come out right but instead just overacting, which doesn't give his character any depth or beliavability.

But as said, Kamenashi's fans are most likely to like this.

Quote:
you guys are "fanboys" just watching it because of Meisa...
If you are guys then maybe you guys are just jealous of Kame. >_<
..no?

And saying "we" don't really know him is kind of.. hmm. No fangirl does either.

Sure, give us your opinion about the drama, but back your arguments up (:

For a kick off, I think some people need to do their homework about the different weight classes in boxing. Fly weight, bantam weight, feather weight, heavy weight, etcetera. There are numerous weight classes in the sport of boxing, and depending on what class one is fighting in, one does not have to be built like a brick shithouse (which I am assuming all of you wailing about Kamenashi being unsuitable to play a boxer is what you believe being a boxer entails). In fact if any of you bothered to learn before spouting your gobs off, then you would know that the character he is playing is the correct weight for his boxing class.

Anyways, moving on. The lunacy of this drama comes not from Kamenashi Kazuya playing a boxer, which I actually thought he did rather well after watching the first episode, but from the fact that Kamenashi Kazuya of all people is a binge-eater who can't stop stuffing his face with food. Now that is what I call funny. And it was funny. Hilariously so. I despised the last two drama's Kamenashi was in, complete drivel, but I absolutely loved the first episode of this. The character he plays is barmy, the nun is barmy, the coach is barmy, they're all bloody barmy, and colour me surprised, but I thought it was the most entertaining first episode of a Japanese drama I have seen in a long time. There wasn't one single boring part for the entire episode, I loved all of the characters, and while it's far from realistic (but let's face it, what Japanese drama is realistic), I found it both charming, and entertaining.

And I'm going out on a limb here, but there are far worse actors from the world of Johnny's Entertainment than Kamenashi Kazuya.

This drama is no more ludicrious than the majority of other ludicrous Japanese drama's that I have been addicted to watching over the years.

Perhaps you should think about it this way: If the casting agency made a poor decision in casting a person who "doesn't fit the image", then it doesn't really matter how hard an actor tries - he or she is doomed to disappoint. (If you want an example, take Oguri Shun as Conan. He's a good actor and I'm certain he gave it his best, but he's too old to be a convincing highschooler. A younger actor would probably fit the image better.)
Add to it the script, which makes this show a bit of a difficult thing to act, because it's comedy.
Mind you, this is about the ROLE, and the image, not about bashing a professional who works hard.

JR. FEATHERWEIGHT (122 lbs.)(55,34 kgs) (Here's an image of a real Featherweight boxer: http://www.fightwriter.com/?q=node/335 )

FLYWEIGHT (112 lbs.)(50,80 kgs) (Here's an image of a real Flyweight boxer http://www.viva.com.ph/sports/features/ )

Kame sure does a great job in making the moves and everything, but he'll have to put on a lot more than just three pounds to match the image of a boxer. He just doesn't have the right shape of muscle.

You know, being a fan doesn't mean that you have to claim everything your favorite star does is great. Me, I like Sorimachi Takashi's acting, or Jimmy Lin, but I don't think that their acting is perfect, or their singing, for the matter. There's room for improvement, sometimes the casting is just a bad choice, and sometime it's plain bad acting. I, as consumer, can say that a show is bad, that an actor doesn't fit in, and that a singer missed his or her tones.
I like them despite all that, because I know that they try their best. Smile
So chill out. You can support him best if you allow him to grow, rather than squishing him by saying everything he does is great just because he had it so hard in the past, and he tried really hard now. Just my two cents on the topic, you know. Bonk

On second watch (and with subtitles Bow ), the first episode definitely gains. So Kame's actually playing a Flyweight boxer and not a Featherweightler.
As for the muscles, I think he's getting there. Perhaps he should really eat a bit more, though. hehe
The food scenes were great, and I wonder if he went into them hungry? Either that or he must've felt sick from wolfing down food like that.
Making him loose ten kilos (twenty pounds) in just ten days is a bit harsh, i.e. since his metabolism would think there's a famine and switch into starvation mode... with the result that everything he eats will be put "on storage" rather than serving a fuel for the body. Doh!
The character's really addicted to food. The voice-over kame did for the Takuyaki at the beginning was right on spot. Beaten

I'm looking forward to the next episode. w00t!

I say Kame looks like any other flyweight boxer I've met. I used to live in Japan and went to a boxing gym and trained with Yasutaka Kuroki, a national champion at the lowest weight class, minimum weight. And have been acquainted with other fighters from that weight class. I say Kamenashi Kazuya more or less has the same frame as Koki Kameda who is also a contender in that weight class (though I think he's a piece of crap boxer). I say Kame's frame is well suited for his character. Granted the choreography and the form is not near the level of Rocky, but I say it's average and descent. He's got the basics. I like it more than Ali and Raging Bull personally (since I didn't like the camera angles in those fights).

It is based off a manga, so I expect over the top scenes to some extent with the execution of the humor and characterization, and maybe some of the fights later on. Granted there will also be changes (such as the head trainer is now a woman and I believe in the original manga, Kosaku went up to welterweight to fight Onimaru, while they both fought at flyweight in this one). All I expect is a well rounded story that has action, romance, and comedy like the manga did, but with a new twist to it now it's live action. Despite how some people are negatively criticizing it, I feel the casting in this drama is far superior to what the live action Dragon Ball has to offer so far.

I won't be surprised if other KATTUN members come along for cameos like they could be Kame's opponents. Like I'd like to see Jin play the OPBF champion (forgot his name) who puts Sister Angela's aunt in debt. He's also a top bar host as well so I think Jin's abilities and looks are well suited to that role.

Anyway, I hope this drama paves way for a live action Hajime no Ippo series which is also my favorite manga. I think Ichihara Hayato would make a great Ippo. He has the look.

Then again, I don't want the series jsut to be an advertisement for KAT-TUN. They already got their song as a theme. But anyway, I feel they can be selected based on their merits that they can perform their roles well.

I saw the 2nd episode, and I thought it was hilarious. Kurusu is one tricky southpaw.

I'd like to see Ueda though.. he would probably be good, as he already is a boxer, and also, he's never been in a dorama before, so it would be very interesting.

Yeah, I guess that could work. It would be funny if the Kameda brothers (world ranked boxers in real life in Japan) had a cameo as well.
