So, I'm not really sure if I can post this here, but I'm just really curious about your opinion on having a caucasion female lead in a Japanese drama. I know some drama's give small supporting roles to foreigners, but if a drama has a female lead that is not asian, but does speak the Japanese language, will you watch the drama or will you be put off by it?

Quite a lot of people have seen the post, yet I've only gotten 1 vote for the poll.
I don't necessarily need an explanation, but if I could trouble everyone that sees this to just click yes or no then that'd be great n.n

I wouldn't mind... I'm always impressed to see a non-Japanese person speak Japanese. Victory! Peace!

But the drama would have to be interesting as well... Just having a Caucasian in the lead isn't enough to make me watch.

Funny you mention this. The next asadora starting in September, "Massan" features an American actress: http://www.japantoday.com/category/entertainment/view/american-actress-to-star-in-nhks-morning-serial-drama-massan

The asadora was dying there for awhile but has had a real resurgence since "Gegege no Nyobo". It'll be interesting to see how this one does.

That's why I didn't answer the poll. He doesn't have my choice which would be either It doesn't matter or I don't care.

Along the same lines, a few years ago Kimtaku had the drama "Tsuki no Koibito" and Lin Chi Ling from Taiwan was one of the leads. I didn't watch because she was in it and I still would have watched it if she wasn't.

I did consider throwing in this third choice you mention, but I figured I could get a better view of the overall opinion by keeping it "black and white" with the option of elaborating in a reply.

I'm just wondering if there are drama fans that refuse to watch a drama simply for having a caucasion lead (for reasons as not wanting any western influance or such). So in abscence of such a position, the answer will then automatically be 'yes'. (and then I'd love to know whether it's something you would look forward to or, as already mentioned, it's more of a 'I don't care' / 'as long as...' feeling)

Anyways, thanks for casting a vote and leaving a reply! Wink
