Episodes 1-5 have English subs. They are either hard subbed or embedded, that's all.

For the moment, that's a deal breaker.

Hmm, maybe SubRip can extract those hardsubs from the video....? Fingers crossed

I asked the author of AviAddXSubs if there was any method to "demux" .divx embedded subs. That program embeds .srt or idx/sub subs in .avi and produces a .divx output file. He said he didn't know of any method to go the other way. I guess that's why that method was chosen. It's a shame because the torrent HD files look great on my TV. The IRC HD files aren't bad, but the quality on the torrent files is insane!! Really fun to watch. If it was a romantic comedy or something I could probably watch without the subs but with all the skullduggery in this show, it's impossible to follow if you don't understand the dialog. Mostly talking heads.

SubRip uses optical character recognition to rip the subs from a hardsubbed video... Not a perfect procedure, but if the video and subs are clear, the OCR works pretty well. Victory! Peace!

If you decide to sub 'em let me know. I tried SubRip OCR a couple of years ago. Even with idx/sub external files it was no fun. If the chips in .divx players can play the subs then somebody somewhere knows how to demux 'em. We need either HD support in the DVD .divx players, or the WD players have to incorporate embedded .divx xsub support.

The WD player is strange. Some .avi with external idx/sub it will play the subs, some it won't. The only way to be certain is to use .srt subs afaik. But I've only had the thing a couple of weeks.

At this point I'm settling for the semi-HD IRC download. Looks better than SD and the subs are hard coded so I know it will play on my WD box.

Have you inquired over at videohelp.com?

Wouldn't be surprised if someone's found a way to hack those DiVx files.

Why do you want soft-subs so bad? I am fine with hard-subs and am just wondering.

Also, I have been watching this show and find it pretty entertaining. Its not one of the best doramas I've seen but it is certainly entertaining

With the softsubs, I can choose the font, font size, make spelling and grammatical changes... And do the hardsub myself to a 720p or 1080p video.

I suppose that's nitpicky, but it's my personal preference.

Oh my, they're on to you! HIDE! Sweat

To be fair SARS, bmwracer sounds like he/she (sry) only wants to use the ripped subs for their own personal use and is not using them as their own.

Exactly.

SARS seems to use different fonts and font colors which is distracting at times... Plain Arial Bold font in yellow is the best and most legible.

(BTW, I'm a guy Smile )

So? What does this have to do with anything? Sars does not give you permission to do this, because they do not want their subtitles being used in that way. You need to respect that or SARS my shutdown.

So, who cares whether you love them or not, doing this just makes SARS get very upset, and they probably think you really do not love them.

As far as I know, hardsubs can't be ripped outright... but you can painstakingly copy and type each word into a separate subtitle file... which is for the truly obsessed!

SARS translations are excellent, but they really should stop playing around with the fonts, whether it's just a note or the song lyrics.

I agree with bmwracer: arial (or calibri/segoe ui for a modern look) with yellow fill and black line is the best sub style.

That remark is contradictory: If no one cares whether or not you love them, then why would SARS care? Head Scratch

EDIT: If I've offended anyone about ripping the subs, my apologies... It was just a thought... Nothing heinous or devious was intended.

He is still suporting them and they have amazing translations. He just wants to view them a little differently. We all download them from the site (wether IRC, torrents or DD) and are all suporting them the same IMO. Personally I watch the SARS releases how they are released. And on a side note, while some may not agree with the fonts SARS uses for the dialogue, they do am amazing job at making the signs look like they were in the show to begin with. and to whoever just twittered from SARS seconds ago, don't let this get you down, I love the show and appreciate the work you put into it very much, we all do. For myself I have no desire to change, steal, or post subtitles. I only wanted to watch the highest resolution version of the series. By having it "divx player only" it limits it to people with PC Home Theater setups. My DVD player can handle subs embedded in .divx but only at SD resolution. My WD player can play the full HD res version, but not with embedded xsubs.

As another poster mentioned, if somebody is out to steal the subs they can type them into a subtitle authoring program.

The HD version on IRC is good enough. It would be nice to be able to watch the higher quality HD available on torrent, with English subs, but we can't always get what we want. Smile

Thanks for subbing the series.

Same here.

I'm not trying to undermine the fansubbers... I just want to be able to take the softsubs and apply them to a 720p or 1080p video... In a clear and legible font/font color.
