Ep 7 Last Christmas. So far so good. This is the lighthearted (so far) comedy romance that I truly enjoy. I think I have a new love - Yada Akiko.... what a doll. I guess she was in Friends also although I can't recall her in that. Despite all the Kyoko Fukada detractors, when I see Kyoko in a drama I'm simply blind to any others. But from now on my eyes will be open for Akiko. Yippee....
I LUFF Last Christmas! One of my favs. In Friends, Akiko plays Fukada's friend, the person who dragged her to the other country in the first place.

Aye she's a doll, but word has it that none of the tv stations want to cast her in dramas after she married Manabu Oshio. So it might be quite some time before we see Akiko on screens.
What does her marriage have to do with her acting?!

Nope, that was me. I was the one who much prefered "Crying out..." the movie. And I'm a whole lot older than young Monta.
I remember your Crying Out Love comment and I believe you are more driven by the actress (Nagasawa Masami) in the movie version that you like. I do the same thing when one of my favorites is in a drama so that kind of preferring is understandable.
But my Monta reference was from the comment he made below:

finished Sekai no Chuushin de Ai wo Sakebu movie and also finished watching the first episode of the dorama version.
Just like Taiyou no Uta, i liked the movie version better. It's more compact but still meaningful.
Although there are a few differences from the dorama version.
The best thing that i like from the movie is that unlike the dorama, it's not trying to sell pretty faces! I really felt the chemistry between Saku and Aki in the movie. Excellent! Memorable, touching, and so sweet
The closest one to the manga would be the dorama version. Nearly exactly the same. The movie felt like it was a little bit rushing things but the dorama was a bit draggy to me.
And from what i've read from the manga, Sekai no Chuushin de Ai wo Sakebu by Katayama Kyoichi and Kazui Kazumi... i realized that Yamada Takayuki, again, is such a lame fruityboy . I felt that Saku's character in the dorama was so miscasted he was an expressionless mellancholy boy from the begginning until the end. And the movie version actually has a big difference in, quite a big one actually.
The movie has better acting, the dorama has a slightly better plot. it just depends on which one you prefer.

Heh good question but apparently the advertisers and tv stations think that her marriage to Oshio Manabu tarnished her squeaky clean onscreen persona since he has a bad reputation. We'll have to see if that's true or not.
Watching Kyuumei Byoto I & II. I'm liking Matsuyuki Yasuko's character better than Nanako's.

Miss Monika posted this in the Entertainment News from Japan thread awhile back, so maybe Akiko might back at work sooner than we think:

It didn't take Oshio Manabu (28) long to go astray, according to today's issue of weekly gossip magazine "Friday". The actor and singer got married to popular actress Yada Akiko (28) just last November, but last week a reporter spotted him entering the Tokyo apartment of a single 25-year-old "OL" (office lady). The magazine speculates that as the lights were soon turned off, Oshio must have spent the night. His management insist the woman is the girlfriend of a friend of Oshio's and all three were in the apartment.
Edit: On topic, episode 7 of Kuitan 1, I'm watching this slowly, savoring it like a fine meal.

Ah, I hadn't realized that Monta and I shared the same opinion about the movie.
Listen, I know this will sound like I"m beating a dead horse but...

Please please please don't tag me as a Nagasawa Masami fan.
I understand what you're saying. And had Kou Shibasaki been the lead in the "Crying out..." movie I'd probably have to give you that point. (Heck, I got the movie in the first place because I thought she was the lead.) But Nagasawa? Not so much.
Bottom line, I just thought they did a better job of telling that story in the movie.
I didn't think the series added anything of value to the story. _________________
I think the big difference is the age of the viewer. I noticed you rated the Crying Out Love movie highly and dissed the drama. My interpretation was exactly the opposite. The movie sucked the drama was the greatest ever. I suspect at your age you are more impressed with Saku riding around on a moped which for me destroyed the idyllic setting of the drama while Saku's bicycle in the drama added to the idyllic setting.
As we mature (ahem) we like our dramas to last long.... in my youth I too would not have had the patience to watch Crying for 11 hours whereas now it could go on forever.
oh, this is also true... yeah, i like that motorbike

episode 4 of Yomigaeru Kinrou
the story is waaaaay too confusing for my brain. is there supposed to be a special before this or somethin??? no introduction at all! suddenly all these names show up and the main character raids this creme de la creme club and talks sheeeet in english asking for money and shooting everywhere with his gun.
i guess it's interesting to see Katori Shingo as a psycho yet the action in this dorama is cool. but that doesn't cover up anything without understanding a single bit of the story. i can't believe people can understand this thing... _________________

I haven't seen "Yomigaeru Kinrou" so I can't help you out in terms of understanding everything that's going on.
But in terms of a "special" that came before the series started...
From the title and the blurb, I assume "Yomigaeru Kinrou" is a TV update of the 1979 movie, "Yomigaeru Kinro. (International title; "Resurrection of the Golden Wolfe. You can probably pick it up at any DVD rental store.
It's a pretty violent action movie. But I enjoyed it, and it might give you some clues as to what's going on in your series.
Besides... it's a chance to see Jun Fubuki back in the days when she was just about the hottest woman in Japanese movies. Long before she started playing everyone's mother on Japanese TV.
Man, she's well into her 50s and I've still got a teenage crush on that girl. _________________
aah, so there's a movie for Yomigaeru Kinrou. that might explain everything. i'm gonna try getting that one.
meanwhile, finished special dorama Propose
it contains 3 episodes of a based on a true story proposal stories.
episode 1: was sooo freaky. first, it stars MatsuJun... as a fire fighter , a dumb one that is... it took like 5 seconds for him to actually react when there's a fire alert. MatsuJun falls in love with this 35 year old widow that has a son ( i'm starting to think this marriage between people with a big difference in age is such a trend in Japan or something ). it was soooo poorly acted and poorly written, simply terifying. no chemistry at all between the characters! Moreover the music director must be the worst ever!!!!!!!! wrong music, wrong timing, for the wrong scenes. . this is the most stupid and the cheesy-est thing i've ever seen on television! it's supposed to be touchy but i actually feel like i'm about to puke.
episode 2: Fujiwara Norika and this dude i forgot the name. this one is actully acted pretty good. I feel sorry for the casts having to put up with the dumb script
episode 3: Uchiyama Rina and someone who looks like Tamayama Tetsuji. this one was pretty good. Oh, and this is the first time i've seen a Nokia cellphone used in a japanese dorama . who on earth will give up a 20 billion yen company to become a farmer?
overall, it sucks. just coz they have a 'based on a true story' label they think they can get attention (they did )
and now, my brain is ready for some more Yomigaeru Kinrou _________________

Bloody ridiculous, if you ask me.

O yea! I remember reading this article in that thread, as well. Poor Akiko! I hope she gets out fast... if this turns out true. _________________

Watching an old one...Mada Koi wa Hajimaranai... finished ep 3, but it feels like I've watched twice as many...This is a great show...you think you know where it's going but then it gives you a curve or twist, and you're left wondering what's next...great seeing actors we're familiar with when they were 12 years younger...the screenwriter's credentials are awesome...
