We watched a documentary about the Takarazuka theater (an all-woman theater) in my Women in Japanese History class today. Maya Miki was featured in it. She played a male and seemed to stay in character even when not performing.

Maya Miki, from what I've read, was a big star in the Takarazuka troupe, specializing in otokoyaku (male) roles. Another big Takarazuka otokoyaku star was Amami Yuki. Kuroki Hitomi also got her start in Takarazuka, but she specialized in onnayaku (female) roles. Apparently the otokoyaku roles are more coveted by women aspiring to join Takarazuka, and those who are chosen to fill those roles are more popular with the almost entirely female audiences who patronize these shows.

Rennai kekkon no housoku episode 1-3

I didn't find it as funny as Ohsama no resutoran or Odoru Daisousasen. It was pretty enjoyable though.

Well, you just named two of the best dorama series ever.

But, as you stated, Renai Kekkon no Hosoku is an enjoyable watch. The producers must have given Yanagiba Toshiro some muscle relaxants to unclench his perpetually tight jaw; his character is 180 degrees different from Supt. Muroi. Who knew Yanagiba could play goofy?

Finally finished Saito-san. It took me forever. It was a sometimes pleasant trip but it's parochial story, devoid of a meaningful plot, made for slowgoing at least for me. I enjoyed some of the individual performances but I could not help but make the inevitable comparison to the only other yochien (kindergarten) dorama that I've ever seen, Sweet Home starring Tomoko Yamaguchi. Sweet Home is on another level completely, much more engaging and funny in so many different respects.

Tomoko Yamaguchi's character as is Mimura's character is named Wakaba...an eerie coincidence....but that's where the similarity ends. Tomoko Yamaguchi was so much funnier and compelling as the concerned mother trying to keep up. Of course one can't forget the cram school teacher played by Yoko Nogiwa who is fantastic in her own right.

Saito-san was okay but Sweet Home will always remain a classic.

Last episode of Gonzo. Awesome series. It gets either a 9 or 10 from me.

Also watched the first episode of Nyokei Kazoku.

That's a good show, though you'll pretty much hate everyone in it. Beaten

Only the first episode of the drama and I kind of hated everyone already. Especially the youngest daughter because she bugged me in My Boss My Hero.

It gets worse... The characters, not the drama.

Cool. I haven't watched anything like that for a while. I can't wait to watch the next episode. Twisted

I've avoided watching Kurosagi for a long time now, because people have said that it's crap basically, but I watched the first ep just now, and I like it! It's not at all as bad as I expected it. I enjoyed it. Maybe the following eps are much worse.. Bonk we'll see. I'm definitely gonna carry on watching it for now at least. Mr Green

I thought the first ep was the best.
