I had nothing better to do today so I marathoned Samurai High School mainly for the Mimura factor (she didn't disappoint). I wasn't expecting much at all because duh, it's called "Samurai High School" but was actually pleasantly surprised. Being the stubborn person I am, I tried my hardest all these years not to fall into the Miura Haruma craze, but seeing him with squinted eyes and that samurai smirk instantly converted me. XD Haters don't know what they're missing. The dude is a natural and I look forward to how he'll grow as an actor.
Damn... Mimura... and there's also Kishitani Goro... no, that's not reasonable

He has exactly the kind of face that would fit my doc marten's soles... Mr Green
Currently watching Tobosha and I must say I'm quite disapointed: beside the fact that the murder scene is far from being convincing , they insist too much on flashbacks, emotional scenes and the characters are too superficials, big deception, Tobo Bengoshi is far better even if the main character is a bit too much of a good samaritan, the rhythm of the story has a better path, the filming is better and the characters have much more depth.

Yeah, I agree that this is far from Required Viewing, but it's a pleasant diversion nonetheless, a stress-free way to get through a few idle hours. Watched it right after BURADDI MONDAY 1 & 2, or when I was still in the throes of my Miura withdrawal, lol. Miura + white tank top + random household & farm implements used as weapons + guyliner + fierce samurai scowl + hair in a half-pony = Not a bad way to feed your *cough* insatiable *cough* inner fangirl. Beaten (The goofy modern-day Miura was a scream, too. Icing on the (samurai) cake. The boy knows his comedy. Applaud)

I think it took me all of the first 0.9822 nanoseconds of BM 1. Sweat Then the first time Miura's character hit "enter" after encoding a steady stream of Hackingese, I knew I was a goner, lol.

Took the words right out of my mouth. And ohyeahhbaby he's growing all right... Twisted Once he hits his mid-twenties (he's 20 now) my fangirling will finally be guilt-free, hahaha............. (Ehhh mid-twenties? That's like 5 years from now!!! Okay, early twenties then, hahahaha hehe)

Wait, the boy has haters??? Probably those who've never seen him act. Rolling eyes

But unlike you, I loved Shirota Yu's "Sancho Panza" character to pieces. He just took the role and RAN with it. His scenes with Miura (whether Goofy Efftard Miura or Samurai Miura) were great fun to watch, IMO. Mr Green

Ah. Another drama that I probably wouldn't have been able to stand beyond the first few episodes had some other actor played Miura's part. I wish in the future he'll find a project that's just GOOD, period. Shake Head

I dunno if I'd call myself a hater, just "less than impressed". But the only thing I've seen him in is 14 sai no Haha where I thought, "Here's somebody that's going to give Takky and Yamaplank a real run for their money".

To be fair he was cast alongside Mirai Shida and you better bring your "A" game if you're working with her.

I'm rewatching "Last Friends", coz it has japanese subs. Enough has been said about the eccesive DV and Nishido's performace being wooden but at least he's not repelling. So I can concentrate on Juri-ch... I mean the subtitles.

I also started watching the 2000 Taiga "AOI Tokugawa Sandai", which is quite entertaining, especially the narrator.

No, he's repelling, too. Bleah

There's a long line of people who are more than willing to step into that drama and beating the living crap out of him.

Well, that was my point: Sousuke is not repelling, he does attract a lot of people... 's fists. Beaten

EDIT: mispelled "sousuke"

Oh man, how could I forget to mention Kishitani Goro? He was another favorite things about this drama. He was excellent as Miura's father and I loved the banter between the two and how he would humor Samurai-Miura, sometimes even encouraging his crazy behavior. rofl He nearly stole the show.

@Ender's Girl Me! I used to be a foolish hater but that was only because I had never really seen him act. I thought he was over-hyped but now I totally see that the hype is well deserved. Looking forward to Kimi ni Todoke!

@ gaijinmark Haven't seen it myself, but I heard his acting has improved greatly since 14-sai no Haha. But yeah, playing alongside Shiida Mirai...that's as challenging as they get.

I finished off Troubleman this afternoon.

Episode #7 was amusing.

The other 11 episodes were not.

Going one for twelve? You could say that.

Especially when you consider the 1 was a single.

I'm gonna try the "Triple Kitchen SP" tomorrow.

Fingers crossed.

I finished off the Triple Kitchen SP today.

http://www.jdorama.com/drama.1067.htm

And I have to say, after the last few shows I've watched... I was pretty satisfied with it.

Esumi Makiko plays the wife. Nogiwa Yoko and Ito Shiro are back as the Mother and Father-in-law. And heck, even Yokoyama Megumi and Sano Shiro make a cameo appearance. Not as the sister and brother-in-law, but as an odd couple who run a cram school.

It wasn't what I'd call good. But I'm far enough away that I've stopped trying to compare it to "Double Kitchen". And it was what I wanted it to be. A chance to get to see some of my old favorites running around and having some fun.

If you're not familiar with the cast members... or if you're just not fans of the cast members, you might give it a pass. This is just a bit-o-fluff.

After listening to EG extol the virtues of Miura, I thought I better give him another shot so I've started Samurai High School and he's very good in this*!! Applaud

I also like the casting of Yu Shirota as his sidekick. It would have so easy to go with somebody like Kenta Suga but they went the other way and he's great!!

^ hehe Au contraire, this is the part where I go, glomp (Besides, I'm not one to gloat. Wink)

Ah, yes, Miura. Naughty Glad to hear you've gotten... reacquainted. Mr Green (Note how I've [quite admirably] held my fangirl squeeing in check, out of consideration for your XY chromosomes.)

Shirota Yu came THIS close to stealing the show from Miura, I must say! I loved the touches he brought to his character, like the shuffling and sidelong glances and mumbling "Tono" (LMAO).

And Kishitani Goro as Miura's dad deserves special praise because amid the silliness of this drama he brought out a character that felt so complete and real and -- man, he was actually COOL, like, I-wish-he-were-my-dad kind of cool. Miura's mother and sister were more these token roles, but not the dad, and I'm so thankful the writer really got to develop the father-son relationship in SAMURAI HIGH SCHOOL. You don't find this type of dynamic so often in dramas.

Just bear with the repetitiveness of the formula, i.e. Conflict! + Samurai transformation! = Resolution!, which the writer applies to every possible scenario known to man and can thus get tedious after a few episodes. I stuck around for the three actors I mentioned above, so in the end I felt it was still worth the ride. And who knows -- perhaps so will you. Victory! Peace!
