Nakayama Miho, Mukai Osamu star in love story in Paris

Popular screenwriter Kitagawa Eriko (�gLong Vacation�h) is writing and directing a new film, starring actress Nakayama Miho and Mukai Osamu. Titled �gAtarashii Kutsu wo Kawanakucha,�h the movie will be a love story about a couple with a large age gap, set in Paris. Iwai Shunji (�gAll About Lily Chou-Chou�h) will serve as producer.
This will be the second film directed by Kitagawa, after �gHALFWAY�h in 2009. The new film has actually been in the works since 2006, and it was partly inspired by the fact that Nakayama was living in Paris since 2003.
Nakayama plays Teshigawara Aoi, a freelance writer living in Paris. The heel of her shoe breaks, and by chance she encounters a young photographer named Yagami Sen (Mukai), who has been brought along to Paris by his younger sister. The love story between the two unfolds over the span of three days.
The movie is being filmed entirely in Paris. Shooting started on March 15 but is already scheduled to finish on March 29. Theatrical release is planned for October 2012.

The good folks at Showtime (Cable TV) are running Shall We Dance ? this month http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117615/ so I got to watch it again this evening for the first time in maybe 5 or 6 years.
It's even better than I'd remembered. _________________

Kou, Maki, and Terajima

Masuda Miri�fs popular four-panel manga series �gSu-chan�h is being adapted as a theatrical film, starring Shibasaki Kou, Maki Yoko, and Terajima Shinobu. The movie will be titled �gSu-chan Mai-chan Sawako-chan�h and will focus on three of the main characters from the manga.
Published by Gentosha since 2006, the �gSu-chan�h series has so far sold a total of more than 280,000 copies, with a following mainly among women in their 30s and 40s. The series follows the daily lives of several women as they deal with work, love, and friendship. The movie will be based on three of the books in the series, including the first one released in 2006.
The three main female characters in the movie are friends who once worked together at a part-time job. Shibasaki will play the lead character Su-chan, a 34-year-old who has been working as a cafe employee for more than 10 years and who has feelings for her manager (played by actor Iura Arata, formerly known as ARATA). Maki will play Mai-chan, a 34-year-old office worker who is carrying on an affair. Terajima will play the 39-year-old Sawako-san, a web designer who, together with her mother, takes care of her elderly grandmother.
Young actor Sometani Shota will play one of Su-chan�fs cafe co-workers who has feelings for her.
Filming started in mid-March and will continue into April. Minorikawa Osamu (�gSOUL RED: Matsuda Yusaku�h) is directing. Release is scheduled for 2013.
Director Ishikawa Hiroshi recently finished shooting a new film called �gPetal Dance,�h starring Miyazaki Aoi, Kutsuna Shiori, Ando Sakura, and Fukiishi Kazue. This is Ishikawa�fs first theatrical film since �gSu-ki-da�h in 2006, which also starred Miyazaki.
�gPetal Dance�h is a road movie about the growth of four women. It starts with Jinko (Miyazaki) and Motoko (Ando), two women who have been friends since college. They hear a rumor that their friend Miki (Fukiishi), who lives in northern Japan, had jumped into the ocean, and they set off on a road trip to see her. They meet another girl (Kutsuna) who ends up going along with them.
The movie is scheduled for release in spring 2013.

re the film Shall We Dance.
I looked it up and was delighted to find that it was mainly filmed in Blackpool in UK. This place is the famous Tower Ballroom where the International Ballroom Dance competitions are held. Many other events there also.
I have spent many joyous hours dancing on that lovely floor. First time as a child dancing with my father when all the gentleman wore white gloves. Later during the war when it was filled with uniforms and still very well supervised for correct ballroom dancing.
We kept on dancing and we kept on with our horse racing. Always had a flutter on the horses. Our mail assistant was a runner for the local bookie and he always had a good tip.

The cast members for Takeuchi Yuko�fs upcoming movie, �eStrawberry Night�e, has been revealed.
�eStrawberry Night�f is based on a best-selling mystery novel by Honda Tetsuya. It tells a story about Himekawa Reiko, a non-career female detective who sheds the light on various cases. In November of 2010, it was released as a special drama, then in January of 2012, it aired as a drama series with an average viewer rating of 15.9%.
The movie version will be based on Honda�fs novel called �eInvisible Rain�e. Himekawa goes after a serial killer case, but realizes that the police organization is involved in a complex situation. Nishijima Hidetoshi, Koide Keisuke, Maruyama Ryuhei, Takeda Tetsuya, Tsugawa Masahiko, Watanabe Ikkei, and Namase Katsuhisa will be returning from the drama series.
New cast members include Osawa Takao and Miura Tomokazu. Osawa will play �eMakita Isao�f, a yakuza who is drawn to Himekawa, while Miura will play �eWada Toru�f, the chief of criminal investigation section.
�eStrawberry Night�f is scheduled to open in theaters sometime in 2013.
I saw A Ghost of a Chance / Once in a Blue Moon. Eri Fukatsu was good I enjoyed her performance. I felt the movie was too long, it was almost 2.5 hrs. There were a lot of names associated with this film, so they must have had a big budget and used that to make the film longer than it should have been.
It was nice. The Maeda brothers were fun to watch and there were good cameo performances from the adults too. Nothing very deep about it, but it managed to be realistic and enjoyable too.

I saw it this weekend. I agree, Fukatsu, Kiichi and Nishida were all very good but it was waaaaaayyyy tooooo loooong. They could have cut it down by at least 30 minutes.
Okay, so I wanted to check this film out but unfortunately it's only playing on one screen in L.A. thus far at some indie theater downtown with limited showtimes, so I opted to download it instead (from Avistaz).
This film is good. Not quite as epic as Takashi Miike's 13 Assassins but more contemplative in its treatment of the changing landscape of Japanese feudal society with prolonged peace that came under the Tokugawa shogunate. Thematically it is very similar to the film, Twilight Samurai, as it deals with an impoverished samurai seemingly out of place, and out of time, in a Japanese society where values of bushido are becoming increasingly irrelevant during peace time. The acting is good although it doesn't reach the lofty heights of Miyazawa and Sonoda.
If you like jidaigeki films it's worth checking out.
