I'm moving this thread to General Discussions since this forum is about Japanese Dramas, not Korean ones...

While I have never seen a Korean drama, I've heard they use the cancer angle alot. So it must be working if people keep watching it, right?

I've my picks on bad kdramas and good kdramas.... and I also admit that most kdramas I watched are so long and draggy that's why enjoyed jdramas a lot. However kdrama that is an exception of my 'i don't like Korean dramas' list is Full House, I really enjoyed the humour in full house and was so relieved to know that it's a happy go lucky drama, without those draggy thingy which I always experienced with other dramas. Kdramas has been too much associated with sad theme which can be so repetitive.

I don't think it's wrong to hate or love kdramas, like me, I'm neutral although sometimes the dislike part can be heavier, but i think we should refrain from being racist, by saying about we dislike this race, or that race, it's just rude, I can't stand reading that since by saying that, u streotype ppl from certain race, we also have korean ppl in this board, we should keep that in mind. If it's Kdramas, I really don't care about it, because me too don't really like Kdramas, but being racist, and having stereotype thinking is just too much for me. Sorry I don't mean to be harsh, just stating my own opinion.

they are full of sick people falling in love with their brothers or sisters or suddenly dying of a fatal genetic disorder in episode 34. And finally in episode 53 you realize they are not blood siblings... Or they are always confused till the last episode where they fall for the date's brother or something... Sweat I'd rather watch Bollywood...
I always get cheated into watching them. It's always one of my friends telling me how 'great' this drama or that drama is... Grumble
I think Korean dramas are why they invented the fast forward control in the first place. Geez... thank god for the fast forward control!!!

It's funny... but two of my Korean acquaintences both can't stand Korean dramas, because they are way too melodramatic and full of cliches.

Yeah, I agree with BMW. That's not a nice thing to say.

Also, there are Korean dramas that are known for being pretty darned good... Winter Sonata, Summer Scent, Attic Cat, et al.

I think what fybabe described was probably Autumn In My heart aka Endless Love aka An Autumn's Tale, which is what got me started watching Korean Dramas since March in addition to Japanese doramas.

Don't get me wrong, Jdorama is my first love. but good Korean dramas have a certain & ever lasting charm to it. I've only seen a few and stick to the ones that have good to great reviews.

If you don't like the sad, predictable, sappy & typical tear jerking Korean Dramas, I recommand:

All In
http://www.spcnet.tv/reviews/review.php?rID=302
Attic Cat (light love story)
Damo (has all around 5 stars reviews, have yet seen it)
Full House (light love story)
Hotelier
Lovers In Paris- (light comedy + love story, no one gets sick, refreshing dialogue but prob appreciated more by women)
Ruler Of your own World

For detailed Korean Dramas reviews (I am not kidding by "detailed", most is 6-page long) , pls visit the link http://www.spcnet.tv/reviews/review.php?rID=302

And check out my Korean & Japanese drama trade list.

there was only a few i thought were good, "full house" and some others, K-dramas are mostly of course dramatic lovestories where there is a complex majorly twisted lovestory, i honestly have watch some, a few were good, and the others i could pass on. But in all honesty, i like J-dorama's much more, maybe because i am biased and i like japanese much more than anything, or maybe cause i have favorite j-idols already, but i like the j-doramas because they are more appealing. The ones that i have seen, thanks mostly to @bmwracer, are seikei bijin, gun crazy(movie), Unmarried family(forgot the japanese title), and Pretty Girls. Another one that i have also seen are "Bus Stop", all of which are great j-dramas, i hope to see much more soon.

Yep, it seems like in every kdrama someone has some disease and dies at the end. Or they fall in love with each other and it turns out they're siblings. hehe

I have a pal who loves kdrama. She mentioned one reason is because of the no. of episodes kdrama has allows the story to develop unlike jdrama (which i objected). To me, jdrama is just nice, not too long or too short. It all boils down to individual's perference, i guess.

I agree when you guys say that in many drama's there's the cancer thing but at the end they stay alive and blablabla..It's getting on my nerves too but there are also other drama series that are better and good you know...
Full House, Bright girl's succes story, Sweet 18, lover's in paris, Mian hada sarang handa,....
It's all a matter of what you watch if you watch the usual stuff like Winter sonata, Beuatiful days,..well yeah... Mr Green

I have enjoyed some of the longer Kdrama series like Winter SOnata.
Adored Hotelier and am enjoying Love Rollercoaster now.
But in general I end up only watching the first half of the kdramas. Dont hold my interest past ep 6-8. The j dramas formula of 10-12 eps is better IMO. Better flow.

Plus the same old Best/Girl/Friend/Turns/Betrayer U Suck scenario is a real bore after the first time or two.
And that is a very prevalent theme. argh!

Doh! There are many things I can't stand abt Korean drama - no aesthetics value, how can people actually think bae yong jun is good-looking, he looks like an ordinary man or worse, an obasan himself! The men look square & rough & gals all look the same I can't differentiate one from the other. The script is not out of the box at all, it reminds me of those 80s tragic taiwan drama where the lovers are always torn aprat by families background, fatal illnesses or because they are siblings. The drama is desparately trying to make you cry like it's screaming in your face "CRY pls CRY!". Shake Head Nothing very extraordianry abt Korean drama... I think people who like it are shallow (pardon me) & people who like jap drama have more depth. Hehehe...
