Thanks for the commercial.

Re: movies over TV. In movies, the money is better, the opportunity to do better work is there, and the schedule is a lot easier to live with.

And remember, Japanese actors and actresses don't get much credit for doing Japanese TV.

When Koyuki got the role in "Last Samurai" she was referred to as a "newcomer". A model turned actress who did a suprizingly good job for someone with so little experience.

Of course, she'd had major roles in a dozen TV series before getting the movie, but in the minds of film people, that just didn't count.

And yeah, I bring that one up because Japanese Actors and Actresses want to do movies outside of Japan. HK, Korea, Hollywood. The Japanese studios and corporations simply don't pump the money into the Japanese film industry the way they do TV and anime. So the actors with ambition have to hope they hook on outside the country.

Being a TV star in Japan is probably a very good life. But being a big time movie star is the brass ring.

I have to disagree with your saying Japanese actors and actresses don't

get much credit for doing Japanese TV. If a drama turns out to be a hit

or classic, the stars of that show would be forever remembered.

Movie stars tend to be forgotton! Of course the HOllywood ones are

exceptional. I think its good idea to do at least 1 drama a year.

I mean even Kimura manages to average 1 a year to keep the popularity going!!!

Forever is a very long time. The two female titans of the late 80's early 90's were Tomoko Yamaguchi and Atsuko Asano. Are either getting many leads lately?

Yamaguchi (who I think is beyond brilliant) tried a small comeback last year... nobody payed any attention.

You yourself say that Kimura comes back and does at least one drama a year,

Meaning, if he didn't keep his face in front of the camera, people would likely forget about him?

I love the dramas. I prefer them to most movies. I wish my favorites would do two or three a year for the rest of their lives.

But movie stars have always been seen as more "important" than TV stars.

Especially since movies, be they Hollywood, HK, Indian, British etc. get greater world wide distribution.

I think the shelf-life of a movie star is far longer than that of a tv star.

One a year? I'm with you there.

Re: the book. Any chance she decided to buck convention and write it in English?

Na. Guess not.

Welcome ycyin,

I know how you feel. It's a labor of love trying to get Japanese series here in the U.S. Heck, I'm a Miki fanatic, but you just mentioned two of her series that I've never seen.

Try ebay.

Just a quick heads-up to the Miki Nakatani fans in the U.S.

A DVD has recently been released of a colleciton of short Japanese ghost stories titled "Curse, Death & Spirit"

Miki Nakatani is billed as one of the stars, but unfortunately... they got it wrong.

The star of the third short story is Miki Mizuno. Not Miki Nakatani.

QUESTION: Do videos on You Tube always stop and start or did I just get a bad connection?

I love Miki, but watching her videos in 3 second bursts is too annoying even for a fanatic like me.

WOW, a Miki Nakatani thread! w00t!

Miki Nakatani really gorgeous and beautiful in Chaos... I haven't seen the movie, only the trailer but I've read some of the movie reviews and they thought it's a great film and I thought her performance here really impressive, just what I saw on the trailer. I hope her latest film, Loft, will release here in Philippines. Shake Head

Horrific Return For Miki

Actress Nakatani Miki (30) is to make her return to the world of horror.
Seven years after appearing in "Ringu 2", she will star alongside
Toyokawa Etsushi (44) in Kurosawa Kiyoshi's "Lofuto" (The Loft) this autumn.
The movie plot is based around a thousand-year-old mummy, and Nakatani
promised horror fans a spine-chilling experience.
