the quality of these shows...i don't know how some of them last..
i want to go on and rant as to how american consumerism has fueled these shows to pop icon-ish status. every teen show is vying to be the next 90210 and by the looks of it, the O.C. is going to take the plum. but then again, you must take into consideration that 90210 has also met it's demise after a few years.. it's a vicious cycle. the next thing you know.. boybands and poptarts are back on top of the charts.
in fairness.. I love the music that these shows feature. like last night.. in one tree hill, they featured iron and wine and calexico's album 'in the reins' that's a pretty cool album if you're into folk/indie music.. bedford diaries featured citizen cope's sun's gonna rise.. it's pretty cool too. you have to admit.. there's a yang in this whole setup. not all is lost.

yeah, i agree with you that some of these shows are fueled by amer. consumerism, and the shows usually fall flat as fast as they went up in popularity...it is a cycle. all this reality tv is a lot to take in, but the japanese have theirs, which is more entertaining.
although some of the music is quite good...but honestly, i don't really watch much sitcoms, i prefer the discovery channel, science/weather channel, TNT/ESPN NBA basketball, and Japanese programs.

we're born to consume.
correction. the american CULTURE is built on consumerism. Everything can be BOUGHT, everything can be DISPOSED. There's no morality to it. I can criticize because in as much as I live in the country, I can still draw comparisons since I wasn't born and raised here. Too bad I'm being sucked into the whole vacuum.

not so quite with their western counterparts..
oh i will readily admit that...but the consumption there is obscene...the obsession to have the lastest gadget, the best fashion, the newest model of this or that, be part of the lastest trend....i mean com'on man they just passed that law that makes it illegal to sell second hand/used electronics.

Yeah... I'm sure there are people in Japan putting their 36" plasma screen in the garbage, because they bought it 2 years ago.
