Ah, now I see what you mean. It's a "watch what you quote" type of situation, huh? I think this needs more education in its usage.

Always.

That's why I have no problems at all. hehe

You don't even see me complaining about the site speed very much. (That only happens during sober days) hehe

Exactly.

Exactly what I was trying to get at as well. Smile

This function is very useful, however only if you know how to utilize it properly.

I did some checking. It seems currently, when a post is quoted, any quotes inside (that contains a username) is not included in the new post. Could the same method be used in spoilers, such that they are not included in the quoted text? That way, users will be able to still quote posts that contains non-spoiler text without the fear of accidentally reading any spoilers.

Let me know if this is confusing (it's 12:40am here Beaten )

spoiler hidden tags, i like that Mr Green better than trying to highlight it to match the background color.. Rolling eyes

also if we are gonna have (or already have) an official download for songs/ost, i think its also good to have hidden tags to keep away from leechers, specially when we use YSI or any freehosting, so it wont die down easily.. just my suggestion but not necessary, cuz thats how it works @ T-N Victory! Peace!

all this talk of spoilers reminds me of triumph the insult comic dog visiting the Star Wars fans standing in line to watch Attack of the Clones

Triumph: "Spoilers, spoilers....I got a spoiler for you...you will DIE ALONE!"

Links die too quickly, huh? There has to be a better way of sharing songs.

If we could get it coded that messages placed within the spoiler tags act as a quote within the original poster's message, then during the quoting process (of a spoiler post), it will never appear.

Okay Genma, go get 'em!

Then everyone would be happy, right? No one can accidentally quote spoilers and thereby read them, and it would still be simple enough to use. Am I correct? Sweat

I believe that is a feature/restiction that Genma had implemented.

When quoting another user's post that contains more than one quote from different users (ie: my post above), this message board will only take the latest one.

For example, if you were to quote my text above dochira's, you would only get my reply to dochira's post and not Tu_triky's.

If we could get it coded that messages placed within the spoiler tags act as a quote, however always defaults as the first quote in the message (as if it were a multiple quote reply), then during the quoting process, it will never appear.

sounds pretty nifty.....well gentlemen i bid you adieu....sorry for intruding on your convo....

good night

Erm, we're back to the same point -- what if the user really wants to quote the spoiler? If the system removes the spoiler from the quote, the user won't be able to quote it at all.

Maybe I'm confused. If the user wants to quote the spoiler (or any fraction thereof) doesn't that mean he/she read it? So it wouldn't matter if the text is visible in the posting section. However I think that nothing should be changed at the moment. If problems start arising, then maybe something would need to be done. In the meantime, I think more discussion is necessary.

Not necessarily.
What if in "User A's" post that contained the 'spoiler' also contained some other general talk on the drama? Also, what if the spoiler part of the message was of no interest to "User B"? "User B's" interest lies in the part of the message that has nothing to do with spoilers. Perhaps just general correspondence on the drama/topic/whatever.
Implementing that situation, what if "User B" wanted to reply to "User A's" 'non spoiler' part of the post?
Again I say, perhaps "User B" is not familiar with phpbb. As a result, he/she thinks they won't see the spoiler (and doesn't want to), when in reality the spoiler text will be visible during the "posting a message/reply process". If "User B" takes notice and sees it, end result? A frustrated, irritated, disappointed, etc. "User B".

The aho solution? Code in to block the spoiler text during quotes and replies. That way at least there will be no accidents.

If a person wants to quote the spoiler, he/she will have to do a little work on their own. Here's what I have in mind for the process......

If the person wants to quote a reply message to the spoiler text, in order to actually read it, he/she will have to highlight the contents in the "spoiler text box". During the highlighting process, the user can right click and copy whatever the spoiler maybe. When posting a reply message, the user can then paste it into the message box and add the quote tags AND spoiler tags (to conceal it again).
If that's too much of a hassle, they don't even have to quote the spoiler message. They just reply to the originating poster and indicate that they are replying to the spoiler message providing that they utilize the spoiler tags themselves.
We just somehow have to get it across that posting spoilers or replying to any of them will require the utilization of the spoiler tags in every post that will contain said replies/messages.

I mentioned this jokingly on one of the threads, but several people seem receptive to the idea: splitting the Artistes thread into one for actors/actresses and the other for j-pop singers and groups.

Is that a problem, not viable, or a dumb idea? Sweat

Sounds pretty cool.
We have some talks on music people in the J-ent forum. (ie: Johnny)
Don't mind moving all those music folk into a forum of their own as they are starting to gain popularity on their own. (As musicians)

Alrighty.

Maybe I should create a poll thread and get some public opinion... Smile

Is there a need for a "Report this post to the moderator" link in each thread? I know that mods keep a careful eye on the threads, so it may not be necessary.

That wouldn't be such a bad idea seeing as though some of us may log in and not be able to check all the new posts since our last visist.
We do try to keep as much of an eye as we can, however we do miss things at sometime or another.
As long as that button isn't abused, I see it as a potential benefit.
