You might want to try Utahime:http://www.jdorama.com/drama.1211.htm

I'm not a big Nagase fan, but I really liked it.

Judging from your profile page you like suspense more than "plain" romance.

If that is really the case you should definitely start with "Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi" and "Karei naru Ichizoku" first, for these are Kimutaku's best "serious" dramas.

Late reply, but thanks for the recommendations. I've just started Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi and so far so good.

I agree with those, but especially Dragon Zakura and Papa to Musume no Nanokan, 2 of my faves. Victory! Peace! Both also star Yui Aragaki if you're a fan of hers. Dancing

First time poster, long time lurker. A short list of dramas I've seen thus far are:

GTO
Hana Yori Dango
Ikaruga West Gate Park
Strawberry on the Shortcake
Kou Kou Kyoshi
Long Vacation
Orange Days
Ace wo Nerae

Yes, I tend to stick with love story-esque dramas and if possible school oriented love stories. A few others I've recently snagged are One Litre of Tears and Hotaru no Hikari although I havent started on them yet.

I come here seeking suggestions! If it doesn't fit all the stipulations but contain any of the leading ladies from the shows above thats fine too as I've fallen in love with nearly every cast in a jdrama I've seen thus far. Give me your best!

^ If you liked Tomoko Yamaguchi in Long Vacation, then I would recommend Double Kitchen:http://www.jdorama.com/drama.74.htm

And another school drama I would recommend is Medaka:http://www.jdorama.com/drama.837.htm. You may end up with Mimura on your girlfriend list.

Nobuta wo Produce, not much romance, but best friendship drama I have watched.

+1.

Two very good dramas... And lacking the typical present-day fangirl fluff.

Hi!

I haven't watched a J-dorama in FOREVER. Hana Yori Dango was the last one I watched a couple years ago and I NEED to get back into the loop!

Can someone help me find a good series that would seem my type? One preferably that is recent or still running. I really liked Hana Yori Dango; I like funny dramas and loved how Makino defied the conventions of what is expected from Japanese women in traditional societies. I also like the whole battle of the classes thing.

I might perhaps like something a little older now that I am a little older but its not necessary. PLEASE HELP! and Thank you!!! <3 Smile

Does anyone have any Drama Recommendations?
In particular, I am looking for English subtiteld Dramas from the early 1990's... like KouKou Kyoushi 1993. Preferably involving romance and/or (high) schools.

Thanks in advance!

^ Did you look at the yearly Dramas by Season listing on the upper right of the first page?

That might be a good starting point. Smile
