OMG!! that is the best!! thank you so much, i figured it was along those lines but I really wanted it confirmed thank you thank you! and this series really needs to be subbed for all those who watched it raw like me are missing out on a lot! I really liked the nakama-jun pairing there werent enough scenes of these two alone together Shake Head , too bad she wasnt the lead in kimi wa petto, but that actress fit her role so it's ok i guess...

oh so back to the possible revival!! um, I don't know any Chinese or Japanese nor technical skills of adding subs to eps Sweat But i really want to help get this thing off the ground too...I don't know how much help this is, but if subbers can use the vcd w/ hard chinese subs to add the english subs to, I can send them burns of my copy free of charge...
About the only other thing I can think of is helping to host and distro when the time comes Big Grin

oh one technical q for anyone who knows: if I found .srt sub files for a series that I already bought a vcd boxset of, can I run the files alongside the vcd so that the english subs come up? and how would i do that? thanks!

As a matter of fact, there was a rumor of Nakama Yukie and MatsuJun getting engaged last summer. (It turned out to be false, though.) I thought it was funny. Big Grin

I think it is possible for you to play a .srt file with a VCD on VLC Media Player, but the filenames have to be the same or something.

Any help will be appreciated. Once the project gets off the ground, I think we'll need a lot of help.

Just an update: I'm still translating and trying to figure out all the tech stuff (media resources, timings, etc. Contributions are welcome!) Finished Episode 3 but will be busy all this week. Might need an editor/proofreader if someone would like to help. I'll keep you posted!

Quatregael,

I was wondering if you were doing softsubs or hard-encoded ones? Also, whether you were going to redo the first two that were originally done by Prince? Not to knock them for doing those episodes but, while they got most of the translation right there was definite room for polish...

at the moment quatregael and i dont have any plans on redoing episodes 1 and 2. maybe i could do some editing for those first 2 episodes to see what you are talking about, and release a soft sub version of those 2.
but im looking for the Gokusen dvds as we speak now. trying to get them off of yahoo japan auctions. Mr Green

You guys are awesome for doing this! I've been hunting around for Gokusen ever since I saw it on KSCI (18) here in southern cali last year. There are things better appreciated when subbed, so thanks for taking the trouble! I actually have a couple of buddies who can do encoding, timing, translating, etc... but the problem is, the translator's sooooo freakin lazy that we all kinda gave up on him. I volunteered to purchase the R2 dvd's, but I still couldn't get them to get off their @$$es. Your efforts are much appreciated...! Applaud

No offense, but sorry, I don't lend out my media to ANYONE that I don't know personally (for obvious reason, I don't want poor handling on my media).

If it's normal data disks, I wouldn't mind disk-disk copy, but we all know there are more works involved in dvd-dvd copy, and I for now can't afford the time for that but if the subs text is ready, I can give you the timing (this timing will be based on my dvds), input it in, send to me the updated file, and I can just encode it with the subs. As I can just leave the encodes do it own works or batch them. And my computer usually only takes 2-4 hrs for a dvd - avi. So I can have them batched and leave for class, come back, and it's ready to go.

I also don't mind if you guys need help with using my web server for distro (not to be abused) however I am talking about 100-200 downloads. PM me if you need it. I would have the server on and off though since it can only handle ~200 simult connection @ 900kB/s each (Trying to avoid the need to restart server)

Best of luck Smile

I found this one:

http://page8.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h7849032

That one has the special, too, though. CD Japan has limited stock on those Gokusen DVD's, but Amazon Japan seems to have them readily available. The auctions are probably a good back-up if you plan to buy them rather than have Prince do the encode. I haven't seen one of the bootleg region free DVD sets for Gokusen. They may exist but I have never come across them Sweat The last resort is probably VCD. Although I don't mind subbing or watching remasters to VCD.....most probably don't prefer it. I just have the VCD for plans to watch it as is, but I do that sometimes, lol Bleah

Another option:
I have raws of all the episodes. They are DVD grabs, compressed down to about 600 MB per episode. Excellent quality, of course, at one episode per CD. Let me know if this becomes a viable option and I'll send you a copy of the files.

To dannylai: I read somewhere that Gokusen is actually short for Gokudo no Sensei, which means something like Gangster Teacher, I think. Or, like it says on Animesuki, Mob Teacher. Smile

Well, this is just an educated guess, but "goku" comes from "gokudou" (gangster) and "sen" comes from "sensei" (teacher). So it means "Gangster-Teacher"!

This style of abbreviation, taking the first syllables of words in a phrase and concatenating them, seems to be pretty popular in Japanese.

I only just figured that out because I hadn't thought about that before ... I'm glad you asked that question.
I like both the dorama and the anime. I think they are a lot of fun.

Smile

P.S. I'd like to help out with this fansub project if I can. Thanks for starting it!

vibius: are you able to translate from japanese to english? and do you have the whole series of gokusen (live action drama).??
if you do, maybe you can translate some episodes to help out Quatregael.
he is currently finishing up episode 3.
