I use Rinkya to do my bidding:

http://www.rinkya.com/

Arm-and-a-leg service charges, but at least I can get stuff I'd otherwise have to fly to Japan to get (which wouldn't be such a bad idea actually...)

Hey, World!!!!!

Here's a quick update on what's been going on with the Imouto Yo Fansub Project:

First off, I received the laser disc set this past Wednesday. It's in pristine mint condition! I don't think the owner really used it all but maybe once. Everything's included -- the six discs, the glossy booklet, and even the registration card.

I've ripped episode 1 to DV format. Came out to 51 minutes and 11 gigabytes of data! We've decided to deliver the project in MPEG-2 SVCD format with permanant subtitles. So the quality will just be amazing!

We've also decided to use Sub Station Alpha v4.08 for entering the English subtitles. Right now, we're experimenting with various configurations, including the choice of color for the fonts, size of font, and other aspects of the subtitles.

Right now, it appears to look like we'll have episode 1 sent out to the free world around early to mid-April 2004. Fansubbing is quite new to the majority of the team members, myself included, so episode 1 will probably take the longest. As we learn more and more, and also work together in sync, things will come out faster. The team members are from all over the world, so communications via e-mail and this message board is quite a challenge.

We haven't yet decided on exactly how we'll be distributing the episodes. There are quite a number of methods to choose from, including IRC, BitTorrent, eMule/eDonkey, etc. I've even been thinking about picking key people in the JDorama world to download the eps, then distribute on their own sites like d-addicts, the various IRC channels, etc. Still many things to ponder over.

So please check back to this announcement board every now and then to read up on the latest happenings. Probably the next time you'll hear from us will be to announce the release of episode 1.

One more thing before I close... If you have any questions, recommendations, tips, or any other comments, feel free to post them at the www.imouto-yo.com web site http://www.imouto-yo.com/phpBB/ . The Comments forum does not require registration, so feel free to post anything with full anonymity (sp????)

As we say in Hawaii, Aloha!!!!! Smile

You may already know about these, but I just came across CJ Morikai's Imouto Yo episode guides here:

http://www.geocities.com/morikai/imouto/IY0.html

And wondered if they might help out.
Good luck.

Calling all Japanese speakers!!!!!

The Imouto yo fansub project is looking for one or two Japanese speakers. We've come to a roadblock in the project where we would like to extract additional dialog out of the episodes that weren't otherwise subbed by NGN. Also, we need for someone to be able to listen to the Japanese spoken audio to see if the English subs are accurate.

If you're interested, PM me! What will you get out of helping us? Besides one more brownie point to get you to that better place in the after-life, you will:

- Gain access to the project's high-speed FTP/web site, which can be used for your own personal use. You can use the site as a dumping ground for sending things to your friends like dramas and such.

- Gain access to the project's messageboard.

- Gain access ot the project's mailing list.

- Be among the first to receive various project materials, including raw versions of the video, as well as high-resolution scans of the booklet, OST CD, and other items.

- Receive special treatment by me in case you have technical problems with various things. Just don't ask me about relationships.

And last, you should be able to work together well with the other team members. All the team members are very nice and helpful. There aren't any egos floating within the team. So PM me where we can discuss the specific details about your role in the project.

Thanks for starting this project.

Started to watch Imotou Yo again because after reading this thread, it reminded me of all the moments in the show. The ballroom dancing, the trip to wonderland, the curry cooking session...

I bought the VCDs before the whole J-drama fad begins (at $10 a piece! no joking!!!) but never regetted...

but theres not much info that was given? not sure of the quality either. Crazy

edit:
i just read the thread over at d-addicts, i think you should still continue with your version. (you've invested a lot of time into it already, and you shouldn't give up cuz someone else started on it).
something similar happen with the Gokusen project. but the other group hasn't contacted us (me, Quatregael and dorakura). so im glad we went ahead with the project.
good luck!
