No arguing with that. Fame equates to money in the U.S.

I'm surprised Hikki is second...
If I remembered correctly, Deep River was in 2002(?) and she only has the single Colors in 2003. What could she be doing to earn that much...

international? hmmmm...if you consider her trying to do it in the US, don't think you wanna count that, cos its not successful, and probably won't be. if you consider Asia, almost all the asian pop artists are doing it.

So in otherwords, in Japan, you should focus on being a musician/singer instead of acting????? Isn't that kind of backwards in the U.S.?

hmm, i think its becuase japan has a big anime industry which requires theme songs, etc. The royalties alone must add up a lot.
Ayumi getting $9M? Now, thats a lot of money since japanese entertainment caters mostly on the japanese market and parts of the asian market compared to the US celebrities which has a uch larger market penetration. _________________

There is an interesting article in Japan Today about cleb salaries.
Here is a part of that article. Above is a link to it.
While celebrities in Japan achieve fame through their apperances in movies or on TV shows, they often earn a lot more money from turning up at events and TV commercials.
They appear everywhere, from movie premieres to department store events to boutique opening parties. Those elegantly dressed stars with the beaming smiles you see arriving at gala occasions are being paid a fortune to turn up for an hour or two..._________________ From the Simpsons

So basically, even if Japan entertainers earn less money compared to their US counter parts, their names are more household than some US entertainers that may earn more than them
Maybe it's just me, but it seems like asian entertainment is more widely advertised than US is. Could also be the fact that I don't care about US entertainment too

I think it's the opposite... The Japanese fan's obsession in idols is the cause, the success in advertising using these idols is the effect. Japanese corporations know what inspires their consumers to buy their products and services. Japanese fans are much more involved with their idols than Americans.
I don't see this sort of fan frenzy in advertising happening in America... There are American fans that like their American idols. However, Americans are inspired more by price than anything else when they consume products and services. Even the numbers show it... By the early 00's, Japan's GNP was within 30-percent of the U.S., even though the U.S. is nearly three times as large in population.
