Oh that Kojiro.......

It constantly amazed me to see how pristine and perfect Kojiro looked ..and then along came tatty old Musashi knocking everybody about the head and shoulders with wild abandon. I am still not sure in my mind where Kojiro came from. did he have any family in a hometown somewhere. Was he truly a wandering samurai? He looked too superior to be teaching that gang of workers. Suppose he needed the money to take care of his lady. What a guy..

Did Innosuke ? (Mushashi) come from the same theatre background as the actor who played in the longrunning Hojo Tokumine? that actor came over to California after H.T and was giving performances in full costume on stage. Don't know if it was the same character he was playing.. did you see anything about this bmwracer??

Nah, today is one of the slower days here. I have no doubt that it will pick up when more users start to log on. Wink

One of 'em is here already!

Now we just have to wait for *starts counting fingers* Groink, Saburo, Rinrin, and I guess Kairyu counts too since he's from Hawaii but is currently in Japan..... am I missing any other islander?

From the various incarnations of Miyamoto Musashi that I've seen on film/TV, Sasaki Kojiro has always been portrayed as sort of a tidy, foppish, pretty-boy seeking fame and fortune... From what I've read, Kojiro came from somehwere near or on Ganryu Island, and supposedly some folks had called him "Ganryu."

Ichikawa Shinnosuke is supposedly a decendant of a long-line of famous Kabuki actors... That's about all I know, aside from the fact he's been dating my fave gal... Sad

As long as they're not in boldface. hehe hehe

I think this should be more of a post-Musashi discussion rather than a episode-by-episode review/synopsis, which has been done already on other boards. Just my two deutschmarks...

Gotta eat dinner. Back for more rambling later. Big Grin

Keep the thread burning!! Applaud

I'm actually watching Musashi all over again! Right now I just finished episode 3. Funny what things you forget in a year's time.

I'm also watching the trilogy from the 1950's. I bought and watched Samurai 1 over this past weekend, then taped Samurai 3 off of one of the pay channels two nights ago. I need to buy Samurai 2 before watching number 3.

Watching the series and the movie, I can see now why some people prefer the movie-version of Otsu over the TV version (Ryoko). Otsu from the 50's looked more like a fragile flower, while Ryoko looked stronger. Supposedly using the book as the foundation to everything (I haven't read it yet), the 50's Otsu is a closer match than Ryoko's version. Nothing against Ryoko -- I guess the director of the TV series had something else in mind.

UGH!! As part of its "Samurai Saturdays" series (maybe a title that Details magazine helped make up?), IFC showed one of the Samurai installments. Loud and proud, I am SPOILED by the recent NHK Taiga drama. Not even Toshiro Mifune could save this Samurai trilogy (yes, I'm making the assumption that the other two movies suck as much rhino as the one I saw [well, tried to see . . . I really couldn't watch the rest of it]).

Yeah, BMWRacer, make sure you add some carrots and/or eggs to your dinner, that way you can enjoy bold text like the rest of us Bleah.

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!!!!!! Thanks bmwracer for starting this thread !!!!!!!!!!!! Applaud
Oh, about Ichikawa Shinnosuke, he came from Kabuki, her father is Ichikawa Danjuro, the current owner of the most prestigious name of Kabuki. I don't know about this movie or drama Brad mencioned, but I think this actor is not Shinnosuke, 'cos I hadn't heard he ever made an performance in US.
Talkin' of pics, I've posted this one in other thread, but I'll post it again Big Grin
