We're currently halfway through Musashi here in SoCal, and it's been pretty good even though a lot of additional material has been added to the original story by Eiji Yoshikawa...

Miyamoto Musashi is played by Ichikawa Shinnosuke and Otsu is played by my gal Yonekura Ryoko... Lovey Eyes

For more info, check out the NHK site: http://www.nhk.or.jp/taiga/

I can't really say if it's as good as the book, since I've only seen half of the series... I can say that all of the characters are expanded upon, to make them more three-dimensional, but some people don't seem to like that...

Ask me again when the series ends in 23 weeks... hehe

http://www.nikkansports.com/ns/entertainment/f-et-tp0-040119-0015.html

If anyone can translate this any better, please post it on this thread. Here's the translation via Excite:

PAKURI and Mr. Kurosawa take the NHK big river "Musashi."
the eldest son, Mr. Hisao Kurosawa, from whom a part of NHK TV saga "Musashi MUSASHI" last year inherited copyright as plagiarism of the late Director Akira Kurosawa's movie "seven samurais" -- -- it turns out on the 19th that the lawsuit which asks NHK etc. for prohibition of 154 million yen compensation, re-broadcast, and video and DVD-izing was caused to the Tokyo District Court Mr. Kurosawa -- -- making it the problem -- the 1st talk of January 5, last year broadcast

According to the complaint etc., it is supposed that there is a close resemblance between scenes of 11, such as a scene fought in a heavy rain besides the fundamental story to which a villager employs a samurai and confronts a field samurai, and a scene on which a hero's Musashi extracts the sword thrust into the ground, and "seven samurais."

A representative's lawyer "a part was not imitated as about [ that it is not a remake (formation of a re-work) ] and the parody which paid the royalty, or OMAJU (eulogy), either. It considers as the clear literary piracy act which cashed in on the brand of "seven samurais"", and claims, "The image of the masterpiece which remains in the history of a movie was damaged."

it is indicated that " "seven samurais" is resembled with the weekly magazine etc. after broadcast of the 1st talk" -- having -- the NHK side -- Mr. Kurosawa -- -- although apologized, it did not respond to compensation, but it became this presenting a case to the court "Musashi" is the drama-ized work of the historical novel "Musashi Miyamoto" of an Eiji Yoshikawa original. The NHK public-relations office "for literary piracy, I think that it does not hit. It was commented that I wanted to describe an opinion in a trial."

Don't know if I can get any. You know, 'cause of the whole NHK issue and them shutting down the Musashi site and all.

But I should go and google her. Just in case there are some pics lying around.

Those NHK bums. Fuji and TBs still have their various series up and running... It'll be moot once I get my Musashi discs. Big Grin
