Yes!!! The episode with Sawako's dad is great!! That's what I really like about Shomuni they take a cliched scenario that we've seen a million times and they still manage to make it fresh and entertaining. Applaud

Silliness done well. Actually, that's not quite accurate--there's also sharp satire taking place in Shomuni as well. Regardless, it's a series that is well written and well acted. A lot of comedy dorama that try to inject silliness in their storylines end up being puerile, witless, and dumb (My Boss My Hero is an example). But the creators of Shomuni were able to put together a cast which was a nice blend of veterans and younger performers, handed them solid scripts which showcased both groups, and used this talented acting and clever writing meld to produce a very funny series. I thought the first two seasons were extremely good, the third less so (perhaps Toshihito Ito's untimely death was a factor). There were also three movie specials, but I've only been able to see one of them. I know this series scored high ratings in Japan; I'm a little surprised it hasn't received more attention on this site.

Shin2 - My Boss My Hero might be "puerile, witless and dumb", but I still loved it! hehe

I am also so surprised there isn't more written about Shomuni here on this site. Grumble

Just watched ep 9. Dancing

I've been thinking about what would happen if any British programme makers decided to do Brit version of Shomuni.
There'd be lots of bad language, and lots of sexual innuendoes in an effort to be humourous.

I love how in Japan they can make funny programmes for adults without resorting to smut.

British tv often seems to think funny = smutty. Shake Head

American TV also Shake Head I guess that's why the only american tv I watch is the news. I know if they made an american version of Shomuni at least one of the girls would be cast strictly because of her cleavage.

You are one of many who loved that series. While I stand by my remarks, I think I can understand why MBMH is popular. However, if I may make a suggestion: if you like that kind of broad humor, try watching the first two seasons (but definitely skip the third and fourth) of Salaryman Kintaro. And if you do decide to watch it, it's important to get the special which is a critical bridge between the first two seasons.

Isn't showing cleavage mandatory on every American TV show? It's even starting to pop up (bad intentional pun) on news programs.

Isn't it just so tiresome? Shake Head

@ Shin2 - I'll certainly look into Salaryman Kintaro Thumbsup

Nonomura and Terasaki: some of the sweetest baddies ever. hehe

I'm currently d/loading via emule 3 files entitled
syomuni_SP_2000_A.rmvb,
syomuni_SP_2000_B.rmvb,
syomuni_SP_forever.rmvb
I'm assuming these are the 2 specials and Shomuni Forever. I don't know anything about these files, but once they're d/loaded (it will be awhile), I'll let you guys know.
