Well, at least "Kirakira" is only 11 episodes long.

Between the last episode of "Homemaker" and this one, I watched season 1 of "Gokusen." So now it's weird to see the nurse behaving like Yankumi. Crazy

Episode 50 for Furin Kazan!!! 50??!?! I hate when people screw with the natural order of things. Taigas are supposed to be 49 episodes long. They've always been 49 episodes long.
It's worse down here. They've taken episode 50 and split into 2 parts, part 1 was last night, and next week we get episode 50 part 2. Crazy

gaijinmark,

They always do that up here as well. Since the first and last episodes of Taigas are usually "extended" episodes (about 15 minutes longer than a normal episode) they split them into two parters. It usually means part two starts off with about 20 minutes worth of "scenes from last week's show".

It used to drive me nuts... but I got used to it.

Now NHK has added a 50th episode, I assume because they wanted to screw me me in particular. Bastards.

They could always cut some of the commercials, but heaven forbid that! KTSF can go suck start a pistol.

Kirakira was a lot of fun! Madcap and insane, yeah, but we laughed our butts off. I'd place it above Homemaker, which I'm afraid is getting fairly predictable...

Hey, bmwracer, apparently you're a big Ueno Juri fan, right? But you're down in Socal, right? Do you get IQ Supli down there? Up here in SF we do, and the episode last weekend had a segment with Ueno Juri and Tamaki Hiroshi reprising their roles from the Nodame C. dorama to pose some quiz questions. Check it out. I believe Supli is available through bittorents. The episodes we get in SF are about a month after they are shown in Japan.

Gee, judging from how quiet this thread has been, I guess we're all rather bored with KTSF's dorama line-up on Saturday, although the new taiga dorama looks promising. But I'd like to point out that on over on Sunday evenings, Irya 2 just ended and the Nodama Cantabile Special will be aired next weekend. Any comments, bmwracer-san?

OK, yeah, I know, two posts in a row from me, but I just remembered another sort of KTSF-related item. This past weekend, I was browsing through an antique store and came upon a bunch of old copies of TV guide from the early to mid-70s. I discovered that on Saturday or Sunday evenings there used to be J-TV programming on KEMO-TV, channel 20. This was before Jim Gabbert bought the station in 1980 and changed it to KTZO and then later to KOFY. (Here is a link that gives some history about Channel 20: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KBWB).

I think the J-TV usually started around 6pm and ended by 9pm. The taiga doramas were usually just listed as "Samurai drama-In Japanese" but the modern doramas were listed by the actual titles. Unfortunately, I can't remember any of the titles; next time I'll jot them down and look them up on a dorama database or in the Dorama Encyclopedia.

I didn't move to SF until 1980, the year Gabbert bought the station, but I was wondering if any of the other oldsters who frequent this thread (Geezer?) were in the SF bay area in the 70s and remember watching any J-TV then. KTSF wasn't founded until 1976 (according to their website and Wikipedia), and I only remember them in the early 80's as a subscription movie channel, ON-TV. I was a subscriber for awhile and had this descrambler box on top of my TV for it (cable TV wasn't available yet in my neighborhood). I don't remember watching any J-TV at that time, but then again, I wasn't interested in it in those days.

So I'm also wondering: Did BOTH channel 20 and channel 26 have J-TV programming in the late 70s? Or did channel 26 completely take it over when they started up in 1976? The most recent TV guide I looked through in that antique store was from 1975, so KTSF was not listed yet.

Comments?

Other than it's worth watching....? Wink

I don't think they're showing it down here in SoCal, though I haven't been paying attention much to the broadcasts anymore, since most of the stuff is typically available for download... Smile

Yeah, I'm not sure of the title of the show, but I think I know which one you're talking about... I downloaded it from Stage6 a while back...

Stage6 is a great source for direct downloads... Unfortunately, the site owner is pulling the plug on it on Feb. 28. Puppy Dog Eyes Puppy Dog Eyes Puppy Dog Eyes

Sorry for bumping this topic up, but I'm curious what shows are airing on this channel. I visited the website, but it doesn't say anything about the programming. Sweat

Andru

Nope. The Japanese shows from the '70s were before my time. I only started watching in the early '90s. (Back in the day when Fuji TV shows were still subbed, and Sunday shows were subbed.)

Cori

Right now we've got Kirakira, Home Maker (a 30 episode afternoon asadora like soap) and Atsuhime (a 50 episode asadora like Taiga.) And the evening finishes up with Shiro Ito's game show, IQ.

That's the Saturday night line-up. I stopped playing attention to the Sunday night shows because they are never subbed.

Thanks for the info, Geez. I thought you guys had more subbed Japanese programming than that. It always seemed like you guys were ahead of us in getting certain dramas, so I'm surprised about this.

The KTSF website is kinda lacking. The Fuji-tv website is slightly better: http://www.fuji-tv.com/

On Sundays, Tokyo TV handles the programming: http://www.ttvusa.com/

Starting April 19 in the 8:30 slot, Teppan Shoujo Akane.
http://www.jdorama.com/drama.1034.htm
With Horikita Maki.

In case you can't guess from the title, it's based on a manga.
