I watched a movie on ktsf that aired from around 11am-1pm. The title was "New Yer Trip" (I think "Year" was misspelled). I tried to find more information about this movie on google but couldn't find anything. Can anyone direct me to a website that has the cast and more info with regards to this movie? Much appreciated and Happy New Year! |
That movie's Japanese title was "Kigeki Hatsumode Ressha." As you probably found out, nothing comes up when you google that English tiitle, but I recognized first Kiyoshi Atsumi, who is best known as "Tora-san" in those well-known and long-time series of movies, and then the two long-time famous actressess Yoshiko Sakuma and Nakamura Tamao. Put all three together and you can get this:

Wow thank you so much for providing all the info! It was much more than I expected. Hopefully this movie will air next year again; I really enjoyed it. I spent most of the morning/early afternoon watching KTSF instead of the Rose Parade hah. I'll have to check out Kiyoshi Atsumi's other movies as well.

Yup, that's pretty much how it works -- everything live as it airs on the respective stations. Fuji TV ran a marathon of "Boss" (the new crime show with Yuki Amami), and I got the chance to catch up in live time. Sugoi!! But Keyhole is only as good as your Internet connection -- for some unknown reason Comcrap decided it was going to live up to its name and kept fizzling out all day on the 31st so I kept having to boot up the viewing window. Grrrrrr...
Friends of mine ended up doing the same thing and signed up for TV Japan for a few days just for us to watch Kouhaku -- I bet the cable systems are going to be scratching their heads for weeks wondering why the subscribe rate drops off at the end of this week. At least 2009 ended on a high note here in Campbell.
So we have one more week of "Tenchijin," and then its off to.... what? There's been no commercials for its replacement. Could we only hope for KTSF to run "Ryoma den" next or (god forbid), will another 'green liquid' informercial be run instead? Inquiring minds need to know!!!
Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu to everyone!!

Maybe we'll see some documentaries.
The drawback to TV Japan is that there are no subtitles AFAIK. |
Don't quote me (or use the quote feature ), but the taigas are subtitled on TV Japan. Or am I confusing it with KIKU?

It's strange that they didn't air the preview for Ryoma Den if they are going to begin airing it after Tenchijin. I hope they are not using the ending of the drama to yank another program, leaving Tanoshii Yochien to finish out its run.

I think the ones we get down here (all?) are subbed by KIKU.

I believe that is correct, well I think they are done by NGN (Nippon Golden Network). I should watch the credits at least once, huh?

See, groink would know, but there was a way to tell whether NGN did the subtitles by the font and color used. But I'm not so sure if that is true anymore.

Good observation... I did notice that Tenchijin had white subs, whereas some previous Taigas had yellow subs...

CherKell: Your alternate name for Comcast (Comcrap) reminded me of another one I've heard that means the same as yours but only requires rearranging the letters: Comscat
Dochira: You are correct about the taiga dramas on TV Japan, they are indeed subtitled, but no other dramas are, including other miscellaneous historical dramas they have.
TV Japan: Speaking of which, I am thoroughly enjoying having it, but that's mainly because of the daily 2-hour live coverage of the first grand sumo tournament of the new year...which BTW has an English SAP (second audio program). However, even though I'm also enjoying watching the daily NHK News 7 program with the English SAP which used to be on KTSF every day (and not just on Sundays), I'm probably going to cancel the pay channel when the sumo tournament is over. For me, it's just not worth the extra $25/mo unless there is at least one non-taiga drama on that was subtitled.
NHK World on KTSF 26.2: Yeah, I know it's still not back on. It's now been a whole month since it was supposed to return (12/17), so I'm going to send KTSF another email this week and bug them.

You most likely can rely on D-Addicts for the Taigas, I'm sure.

We'll probably know if there's a new Taiga coming to KTSF on Saturday, the 30th.
It's not all that weird that there haven't been commercials for it yet. KTSF makes a habit of holding back scenes from the next show until the last episode of the one they are running.
Right now they are running a Ken Watanabe movie (First year or one year in the North. I can't remember the exact title.) They take a 90 minute movie, cut it up into three blocks, and use it as filler before starting the next long show. Part 3 of that movie comes on this weekend.
Unless they are dumping Taigas the way they did Asadoras we should get notification on Saturday night.
If they preview another movie, or show scenes from upcoming infomercials... it's all over. _________________ Manga is to Literature

Dochira, thanks for the info and passing on that link! Obviously, NHK wants people to subscribe to TV Japan to get their subtitled Taiga drama fix. I also noticed though, on that same "Samurai Archives" thread, "Wicked Lemon" adds later:
"Another update... NHK World lost so much money last year that NHK are considering canning its export network. This was in the Financial Times."
...which might explain the rather short and vague response I got from KTSF after I made an inquiry the other day about NHK World not reappearing yet on 26-2:
"We were told that it will be soon but can't really say when..."
But KTSF might actually know that NHK World's future is in doubt and the "technical upgrade" reason for its shutdown last month was just BS.
