Peyton Manning is on pace to break the all tiem TD mark and Tiki Barber is on pace to break the all time yards from scrimmage mark. That sums it up for me in the Jdorama fantasy league

What else is new? Is it just me or does Rattay look really flustered under pressure? I know all quarterbacks get rushed eventually, but with Rattay.....I don't know. I could blame the O line for not giving him protection...

Well if he didn't get flustered then he'd be more of a probowl QB and the 49ers would have a few more wins

In other news, Favre 4 TDs (and 0 Int) and also another game winning drive with Longwell for the game winning field goal. Packers are tied for first and who was it that kept saying Favre lost a step in his game

Rattay is the man, every game he's played...he's made atleast 1 perfect pass. To the opposing team.

So MY Niners come out and play an entertaining first half against the
Panthers yesterday and went into the halftime with a 17 point lead. It looks like win #2 just might be at hand. Wrong The Niners coaching staff makes the amazing decision to change ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in the game plan at halftime. Carolina makes some necessary adjustments (as every NFL team does) at the half and walks away with a 10 point victory, on the road no less, against a thoroughly confused and befuddled 49er team.

Boy oh Boy! With the team in this condition... there's plenty of blame to go around.

1) Ownership. The York's, who took over the team from Eddie were never passionate about owning a football team. They took it over as a business. Their primary goal is to make a profit off it, rather than to win championships.

2) The Front Office. I'm not as hard on Terry Donahue as most Niner fans, simply because his job, unlike most GM's in the league, is to make the team toe the bottom line. To show a profit. Rather than win a Championship.

3) The Coaching staff. When York had his hissy fit and fired Mariucci, he caught Walsh and Donahue flat footed. They weren't prepared with a short list of guys they wanted in there as the new head coach.

One of Walsh's keys to managing a football team was to always have the replacement in the wings, before firing somebody.

The field of coaches available to take the job was limited, Erickson was an old pal of Donahue's. Erickson, who didn't have a great track record was willing to take the job.

Erickson was a below .500 HC for four years at Seattle. And though he won a couple of Championships in college, at Miami, a closer look shows that he won his first with a team Jimmy Johnson put together. And after his second, he skipped town just before the NCAA came in and shut the whole Miami program down because of all the recruiting violations, and court cases the Miami players were involved in.

Erickson is a pretty good college football man. He's not a great, or even a good NFL Head Coach.

On Rattay looking flustered...

It all starts on the offensive line. And the Niners have one of the worst Offensive Lines in the NFL.

Newberry, our best lineman is out for the year. (Even if he comes back for the last couple of weeks it won't make much of a difference because he won't be healthy.)

For years, the team tried to build the line on the cheap, going after 7th rounders and inexpensive Free Agents, thinking they could be coached up. Well, we no longer have Bobb McKittrick as our OL coach, and we no longer have Pat Morris as our OL coach. So there's trouble.

We took Kwame Harris as a first round choice out of Stanford to play Left Tackle. The only problem was... Harris had never played Left Tackle in college. He's not good at it. He was drafted because of his height, weight, and 40 time. Not because he was a dominant player in college. That's trouble.

We took Smiley in the second round last year. Good pick! But they threw him to the wolves, starting him way too soon. He doesn't have a clue what's going on out there. And because of the injury, he doesn't have Newberry to help him out. Even the best of O-Linemen need two or three years as backups before they can walk in and start. Not good.

The result? Rattay, Dorsey, Pickett... put in anyone you want. They'll get their brains beat out. If Rattay looked flustered, I think he had every right to. He hasn't been getting anywhere close to the kind of protection an NFL QB needs. Especially since Rattay isn't a burner like Mike Vick.

In fact, none of our QBs are particularly mobile, which is funny considering the state of our O-line.

Then came the final piece of the puzzle. The big contract going to Kevan
"Dead Money" Barlow.

That was in the tradition of signing J.J. Stokes to a huge contract extension after he'd already proven to be a bust, and making Jeff "Hippity" Garcia the second highest paid player in the NFL, after he'd proven to be little more than a side show attraction.

There's just so much blame to go around here.

And oh yeah... then there's the defense. Peterson is out... Sapoaga never got on the field, and we're working on starting our 4th string corners?

Right now, as fans, I think the least of our worries is having Rattay in there as the starter.

And here it starts.

I just watched the local post game show (after the Iggles kicked the snot out of the boyz) and there was Cedric Wilson, talking about how he's put in the time and work, and he shouldn't have to share any time with first round draft choice R. Woods.

Until now, Cedric has always been a stand up team guy, but this is the tune guys start to sing just before they demand to be let go or traded.

Jeez.

If the 49'er ownership had a clue about football, fans would understand that the team is just going through a rebuilding year and taking its medicine, and would be supportive.

But with John York and Denise DeBartolo, that's not the case.

About the only thing that York and DeBartolo understand is $$$. If fans stop showing up at Candlestick and stop turning on their TV to watch the game, that'll hurt York & DeBartolo enough that they would consider selling the team to someone that's committed to doing what it takes to win. The Bay Area does have other parties interested in buying the 49ers.

The Yorks selling the team is a dream of mine.

And yeah, there sure are a few big timers interested.

BUT...

A fan boycott, which would eventually cost the York's money, might just as easily result in the York's picking up the team and moving.


The league and overwhelming fan support couldn't stop Big Al from moving the Raiders.

The fanatical support of the fans in Cleveland couldn't stop the Browns from moving.

The Colts, the Oilers, the Rams...

If an owner isn't making the kind of money he wants... there's not much to keep him from moving the team to a new town that will give him a sweetheart deal.

And remember, the York's have absolutely no loyalty or attachment to San Francisco. They are from, and still live in, Ohio.

I don't think they really care where the team plays.

I think they're licking their chops over that additional 20 mil. they're gonna get every year when the new TV deal goes into effect.

And they get that whether people are in the stadium or not.

I don't know what the solution to the York problem is.

But I think a successful boycott could blow up in our collective faces.

Yeah, it's a risk. But they can't take the team to Ohio, so no worries there. Denise isn't interested in the team, really, she keeps it because of her husband John's ego. She's money driven... if the team loses money I'm sure she'll sell.

One ugly possibility a buddy of mine from Orange County keeps bringing up:

The NFL is very impressed with the fan support the city of Anaheim is showing the Angles. So impressed that they are seriously considering bringing an NFL team to Anaheim in 2008.

When is the 49ers lease up at Candlestick? 2008.

There are a lot of cities across the country that would bend over backwards to bring an NFL team in.

Jeez, just look at the sweetheart deal old Georgia got when she moved the Rams from L.A. to St. Louis!
