This was the best thing I ate at Honda-ya in Little Tokyo. Honda-ya is cool but this location which I go to because it's close and convenient does not IN GENERAL have great yakitori.

After coming here numerous times I've come to the realization that it can not compare to Shinsengumi in Gardena on Western. The quality of the yakitori blows Honda-ya away. The ingredients are of better quality and the yakitori is cooked with more skill, i.e. they don't overcook it!

My favorite Honda-ya location is the one in Tustin where I think they do a better job of cooking the food in general. You live in OC right? The Tustin Honda-ya is my favorite. Check it out.

I'm sure I posted this before so forgive me but since I'm looking at all these pics I took I had to share this again.

There's a new Honda-ya that opened near Cal State Fullerton but I read in Yelp that the Tustin one still tastes the best. I need to go there! Plus Shinsegumi on Western!! So many places to go!! Also, want to try the Iroha ramen inside the Marukai Gardena. A few Yelp reviews were pretty good.

Shinsengumi on Western is a must. It is so delicious. Been there numerous times and I've never had a bad meal there. It's impossible I think! Love that place.

And when you do go there make sure you order the Horensou Goma ae (Spinach with sesame dressing). They use a black sesame seed dressing which stands apart from any other version of this dish I've eaten at other izakayas. It is incredible.

yeah, i am close to that location in the OC, and been there numerous of times.
I fully agree with you in that the Yakatori at the Honda-ya is great, although i can't really say how good the other Honda-ya ones are. I've tried the Shinsengumi Yakatori in Fountain Valley which is connecting(same small restarant but on other side of the Noodle-ramen Shinsengumi), i'd have to say Honda-ya is better though than Shinsengumi's Yakatori.

Yeah I believe you. I've think the best Shinsengumi is the original one in Gardena on Western.

Smile

Like I said I wasn't even playing to go anywhere. My butt was planted at home and then I got a text message saying, "I'm coming over in 15 minutes."

That was the end. I spent all day yesterday recovering from that night. Drunk
