I was just curious...

Cause up till a few years ago, I only watched anime, and it was my main obsession. Then I got into my first drama (GTO), and it seems like I have almost forgotten about anime completely XD yep, dramas have taken over my world (sad?) Nut

Anyhow, are there any other people who are similiar cases? XD

For me, I started with tokusatsu shows (Kamen Rider, Kikaider, Robocon, etc.) in the early 1970's. Then after graduating from high school in the 1980's, I started watching Japanese anime, much of it RAW with english subtitles written on computer printouts to help me. I watched my first Japanese drama in 1997 (Aoi Tori), but really didn't start watching dramas on a routine basis until 2002. Still, even today, I'm more of an anime fan than a drama fan (actually, more of a manga fan than anything).

yup right here! w00t!

To me, anime is much more fast paced, like if you look at their releases and popularity. But I like Jdramas better. I first got in jdramas with To Heart and Long Vacation and haven't really looked back at anime. Jdrama to me is much more professional and fun to watch but I still love both Big Grin

Anime was more accessable. I remember watching Star Blazer on tv, and then later on I would rent fan subbed video. I never considered watching jdorama until I discovered Noriko Sakai from my japanese friend. After that I wanted to see more of her and I heard that she was in Heaven's coin. I still like watching anime as well as a jdorama.

Sakai Noriko was an inspiration for several anime/manga writers, especially Masakazu Katsura. He's known for various manga and anime, including Video Girl Ai, Video Girl Len, and I's. Hayakawa Moemi, a character in Video Girl Ai, was created by Masakazu-san based on Nori-P's look of the late 1980's:

Yoshizuki Iori (I's) was also designed after Nori-P.

I used to watch a lot of anime, but then I moved on to dorama and started listening to Asian pop music. I think it's a natural progesssion. Anime is okay, but there's so much of it now, it's very hard to keep up with it. It's easier for me to just watch whatever dorama is on TV because I don't really like too much of what the American networks are showing. I just don't have time to be watching a lot of anime.

I guess that because I'm older now, I don't connect with anime too much. It's easier to connect with a character in a series that's portayed by a real live actor.

yup right here *raises hand* thanks to GTO as well.

I rarely watch anime now days in fact I'm only watching two at the moment, Initial D 4th stage and Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

I've moved away from just dorama and into japanese tv in general now. I like to watch all the music and tv variety shows along with the doramas.

anime->dorama->japanese tv Mr Green

ps. I didn't knew about the noriko anime connection, and now that you mention it yeah I can see it.

I always thought that Video Girl Ai was a little unknown short anime. It was one of the first video (VCR) that I bought. I liked it so much I went down to the Japanese bookstore and bought the manga (also a first for me) Who know this would lead to this.

This reminded me of an old topic on JDorama.com:

What anime series would you like to see turn into a live action drama?
http://www.jdorama.com/viewtopic.1542.htm

My vote was to turn Ai Yori Aoshi into a live Japanese drama. However, I'd actually like to see Video Girl Ai turned into one as well.

For those who want to suggest Japanese anime -> Japanese drama ideas, please post them in the above link. I'd like to keep this topic on-topic.

Hana Yori Dango! Although I believe this is in the works already and there is a Taiwanese live action version of this entitled Meteor Garden.

I would fall into the category as well. I watched some Anime not a huge amount but I bought some series watched some others. Now it is pretty rare that I watch anime. At the rate I seem to ge going through drama's and the slow pace of new drama's being released with English subs I may come to a point when I have seen everything and get back into anime again. hehe

Haha, thanks for all the replies ^_^.

I guess it really is a natural progression. For me, it started with Neon Genesis Evangelion a few years back.....then naturally turned into a fluent j-pop obsession (old school Namie Amuro, Ayumi Hamasaki and Two-mix XD)

Now I don't really pay much attention to anime after j-pop/dorama became a part of my life.

But if I could choose one anime/manga to be turned into a dorama, I'd choose BLEACH. I mean, look at Hiroki Narimiya...is it just me, or with spiked hair would he look PERFECT for the lead role as Ichigo?
