Good afternoon,
Was thinking recently, what would be great is if we had an additional enhancement to the Artiste listings:

Author(s)/Writer(s)

That way people could click on the author/writer and see what doramas they have written. If they like a dorama written by a certain author, they may like other dramas written by the same person, and would be able to see those doramas listed akin to the way Jdorama.com currently lists actors and actresses.

Since listing the author/writer would be just like listing an actor or actress, it shouldn't require any database reprogramming.

I think that's a great idea! w00t!

Another database that I thought might be helpful is, a listing of the dramas from the broadcasting channel, such as Fuji TV. It can be like the yearly database that we have now, only that the doramas are listed by their broadcasting station.

Nice idea. You're right that it normally shouldn't take too much programming effort, for both the Author/Writer and the listing by broadcasting station.

For writer/author.. it may get quite complicated. How should it be for live-action dramas brought over from anime? Would we later be adding director and the rest of the staff?

One big stumbling block is.. who's going to gather the database.. at the moment we already have problems (manpower) updating the main drama database (yesh, the new season's dramas are still not available here.. hopefully soon though).

For listing by broadcasting station, not a problem, just aesthetics as to where we can put this option/link.

I'd offer to help out, how complicated is the work?

I'm an ex-SQL DBA and an S.E.

I think most of the work is in collecting this information. Of the top of my head, I can think of one, Kouki Mitani. He did Ohsama no Resutoran, the Furuhata series, and I believe Shinsengumi. But that's all I know.

It'd be totally awesome to have the current database coverted to Wikipedia and future updates could be made to it by users. Keeps the database up-to-date as well as easy to manage. Smile

Thanks, like what dochira had said, most of the work is in information gathering and data entry. I probably have to create a module for that data entry. Currently I have modules for most parts of the database except artiste-artiste and drama-drama relations, which I'm still updating via SQL. The most recent drama updates were done by juliana_phang actually, and she's been doing a good job of it so far. Applaud

I'm trying to separate the technical parts and data gathering between me and some helpers. More efficient to keep the site updated this way. Smile

Come to think of it, its a cool idea. Wink But the unstructured nature within a Wiki page makes the entire site very hard to maintain.

I'm also toying with the idea of letting any user do the data-entry, while I just click to approve. mwahaha Only problem is, most users post incomplete or inconsistent information which I have to follow-up before any updates. It shows in the update requests I've been getting on email thus far.

I don't know how much work in involved to code it, but there could be a "holding pen" for incomplete drama submissions. Once the required information (however determined) is filled in (and corrected by others), then you'll receive the final approval message for posting to the main database. It's sort of a hybrid DB-Wiki solution. In this way you are not inundated with emails/PM, and we users will be able to fill in information as we get them.

maybe you should have (if possible) 3 tier approval step. anyone can updat it like you said, but the mods here are fairly knowledgable to check stuff over so we can click on a check, and then ultimately you can have final approval. all kinda like some sort of workflow.
