I figured I would kick off the thread as we are getting close. I did not see an existing thread for this one yet.

I have seen a couple different spellings for this does anyone know for sure is it.

Komyo, Koumyo, or Komei ga Tsuji? ... I think it is Koumyo but please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks!

Although it is not a major histrical person I have high hopes due to the casting. w00t!

Details?

Hopefully it's not another fangirl exercise like Shinsengumi or Yoshitsune.

The biggest reason I couldn't get into Yoshitsune was the casting. Takizawa as Yoshitsune would be like casting Brad Pitt as Patton Bonk

Well the NHK website has changed over to the new drama. Some pictures and a relationship map are available.

I just saw the interview of Yukie Nakama and Takaya Kamikawa on NHK regarding this taiga dorama. They showed some previews of this dorama and it looks great. I'm looking forward to watch this one Smile

I think this is an important series for Yukie Nakama. In becoming arguably the most popular actress currently in dorama as well as being the most highly paid (I read that somewhere), she faces the challenge and the pressure of playing the lead in a Taiga drama. Does she have the acting chops to pull it off? Much of her success thus far, imo, is due to her extremely engaging personality and obvious good looks. Her popular roles, such as in the Trick and Gokusen series, have been more a demonstration of her immense likeability than of how good an actress she is. I liked watching her a lot in those series, but it seems to me she was playing more herself than a character. That's not a criticism of her acting skills; it's just that those roles catered to showcasing how cute, adorable, funny, and engaging she is. Playing the lead in a Taiga drama, however, is a whole different ballgame. I hope she is able to turn in a performance that shows she is indeed a good actress, not just a popular one. This situation reminds me of when Nanako Matsushima played the co-lead in Toshiie to Matsu. Like Nakama, she had achieved tremendous popularity because of her looks and personality, but her role as Matsu proved she was a good actress as well.

The previews on this look great. I saw some of the footage and although this may not be one of the most famous stories in Japan's History I think it will be fun to watch. Applaud

Can't tell much from the first episode... They're just setting up everything: the background history, the characters, etc...

It's weird. The guy who played Saru in Toshi to Matsu is running around NOT being Saru. Some of the characters seem to be well-enough defined in Japanese folklore so you can, for instance, guess who Oda Nobunaga. is... The guy in the fancy kimono who likes to lie on the floor... Smile

Right now, I'd have to agree with that... One of the things being that the hero ain't no pretty boy.

BTW, Yukie-chan makes her debut appearance in this episode... Thumbsup
