Riko Narumi stars in first jidaigeki drama
Wed, September 30, 2009 (2:58am EDT)
Actress Riko Narumi (17) will star in a period drama series on NHK next year. This will be her first role in a jidaigeki work.

The ten-episode series, titled "Sakuya Konohana," deals with the well-known Hyakunin Isshu card game, in which players must be the first to grab cards based on recited poems. Narumi plays a slightly peculiar young girl trying to lead an ordinary life, who wins a Hyakunin Isshu competition. She heads to Edo Castle for a major tournament, where her winning streak quickly draws attention. Throughout this, she grows as an individual and experiences her first love with a revenge-seeking ronin.

Narumi is said to have little experience with Hyakunin Isshu, so she is undergoing fundamental training for the game. The drama already begins filming early next month, though it is not scheduled to start until January 9, 2010. It will air in NHK's Saturday 7:30pm time slot.

^ She looks youthful and happy again Smile
Based on the styling of some of those shots, she's started to remind me of a Miyazaki Aoi/Aoi Yuu type actress. Really swell Smile

Riko Narumi stars in "performance calligraphy" film

Teen actress Riko Narumi (17) will star in a movie about "performance calligraphy," directed by Ryuichi Inomata ("Mari to Koinu no Monogatari"). Its focus is the Shodo Girls Koshien event, which was started last year by the NTV show "Zoom In!! SUPER."

About ten years ago, "Zoom In!! SUPER" (then known as "Zoom In!! Asa!") started following performance calligraphy, which involves teams creatively drawing kanji on large sheets of paper. In July 2008, NTV collaborated with the Kami Matsuri (paper festival) in Ehime, which produces the largest amount of paper in Japan, to hold a Shodo Performance Koshien competition. The program drew a lot of attention for performance calligraphy, so the network started holding a regular tournament known as the Shodo Girls Koshien.

The first Shodo Girls Koshien was held on January 1, 2009. Teams of high school girls drew on 10m x 12m sheets of paper while performing routines to music. By September, two more tournaments were held, and a fourth has been scheduled for January 1, 2010.

In the movie, Narumi plays the head of her high school's calligraphy club, leading her team to the Koshien. She will undergo training in calligraphy soon, as filming begins in mid-January. The movie, which is scheduled for release in May 2010, does not have an official title yet. The title will be revealed on New Year's Day, when NTV broadcasts the 4th Shodo Girls Koshien during the four-and-a-half-hour-long "Zoom In!! SUPER" special.

Bushido Sixteen is still coming out later this month

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0p-H3RV4Mw&playnext_from=TL&videos=E6GFPRDSUF4

here's a longer trailer. Being in the US, I don't know where I'd be able to see these movies anyway. That kinda sucks. Shodo Girls looks awesome as well.

As for her appeal, yeah she does look mature for her age, she' very pretty and can act very well. her voice in Bushido Sixteen even sounds deeper than usual which makes her convincing as a bad*** girl like that.

Those both look interesting, although Shodo Girls looks like it could be "Swing Girls do Calligraphy"

And Riko is a better actress than Juri Ueno
