That sucks, man. I've heard some horror stories of the same kind, you're probably lucky that there wasn't more to it.
Well that's interesting... when I do a Print Screen (shift+apple+3) or image capture (shift+apple+4) you don't see the lines. I'll try taking a digi cam pic and see if it's clear enough.
Edit: K, I took some pics:
If you look closely here, you'll see the blue line on the far left, and a yellow near the far right. I've taken close-ups:
The lines overlap the entire desktop, including the menu bar at the top and the dock at the bottom. Yet when I took the screen shots, they didn't appear. _________________

yeah, that's hardware issue and wont show up when you do a screen cap.
Try rubbing the screen GENTLY at the top and bottom. See if the line changes color or goes away.
Nothing.. then tap the back of the hinge area, look for changes.
Still nothing, then either the sceen is dying or more likely the display ribbon is shot.
New screen from apple will run you quite a bit, esp for a 17"... you'll looking at $500+ labor, a ribbon will be much less.

Neither of those worked, but thanks so my for the help! $500 isn't that bad, and if that's the worst case scenerio, then I'm not too worried. I'm a lil' surprised that my monitor would be dying only after a half and thensome.

Probably not the monitor, but the cables or video card. The good thing is you'd probably would end up with the same errors while doing the print screen, if it was the card. (bad memory...)
- Try changing the monitor's refresh rate, it *might* work.
