Yea, it's based off the Korean version. In fact one of the originals is supposed to appear in a episode. I think the first one.

Oh gawd, hopefully it won't be that bad. There aren't any of those Johnny's boys in this show so that's a plus.

Anyways, if you are curious about the original Korean version, here's a synopsis of the show.

Quote:
After the sudden death of Seoul Hotel? Chairman Choi, customer service manager Seo Jin-Young goes to the US to ask former top hotel staff Han Tai-Jun to take over all hotel operations. Tai-Jun accepts but unexpectedly stumbles into hotel acquisition expert Shin Dong-Hyuk, who is hired by Enterpriser Kim to help take over the hotel.

Dong-Hyuk and Tai-Jun are not only rivals for the hotel, they are both in love with Jin-Young. Dong-Hyuk is head over heels in love with Jin-Young, while Tai-Jun? heart has always been with his ex-love and colleague. Jin-Young herself has mixed feelings about this romantic triangle. Things become more complicated when the wealthy Kim Yun-Hee falls in love with Tai-Jun.

What will be their ultimate desire? Love? Career?

Is it a new cast? Head Scratch
Because the main actor looks exactly like the Korean one, Bae Yong Jun.
Postively eerie!
On the other hand, I loved the Kdrama version (one of the only kdramas that hooked me) so I'll probably like this one.

BYJ will be making guest appearances on the show, I don't believehe's a main character. I just wish the guy would cut his hair, though.

News Article Translation

AERA 2007/04/23 - BYJ Revisted "Hotelier"

credits:
original in japanese: AERA 2007/04/23 p.59-60
translated into english: a sweet sister / bb's blog

The date is April 1 and we are in a dressing room at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul. In a corner of the room, in front of the TV monitor, BYJ who had just finished playing the role of gShin Dong Hyuk,h was peering into the monitor.

gWould it be possible to film a bit more from the side angle?h he whispers to the staff.

He demonstrates the subtle change in camera angle by moving his own hand. (bb: think i'll just die if he whispers into my ear! even if it's saying something as mundane as 'pass the salt please'!!)

gI would like to request a re-take.h

As the camera changes its position according to his directions, the facial lines suddenly appear lovely. He knows very well how to be photographed to appear attractive. (bb: ah.... the perfectionist at work! or hee... is he just a vainpot like us?! don't hit me!!)

This is the filming site of the gHotelierh drama on TV Asahi which will start on April 19. This is a remake of the Korean drama gHotelierh (2001) starring BYJ, in which he will play the same Shin Dong Hyuk role as a friendship appearance and, which is gathering attention even before the drama is broadcast. This is the first time in Japanese drama history that a Korean drama is being remade.

The Korean version of gHotelierh tells the story of personal relationships and romances set against the background of a hotel merger and was highly received in Korea, with the character of Shin Dong Hyuk as the cool and kind M&A specialist being popular with fans.

Ring on Left Ring Finger

gI heard that my drama was going to be remade and I felt a sense of newness. I will again be playing the role of Shin Dong Hyuk and there are some parts where I feel nervousness.h

He said this smiling in between filming. He wore a gray suit and had his hair in a ponytail. There was also a gold ring on his left ring finger. This is gShin Dong Hyukfsh appearance six years later in the Korean version of gHotelier.h

The engagement ring will be left up to viewersf imaginations as to Dong Hyukfs outcome in love which was described in the Korean version. The long hair is due to his role of King Damdeok in the new drama TWSSG (scheduled for broadcast starting in May in Korea). Dong Hyuk has the image of being cunning but the impression he gives now shows he has grown milder than six years earlier.

gI have lost weight for the TWSSG role. There are some who say that I look better thinner and others, who worry about me asking, 'Are you alright?fh

The truth is that he agonized considerably before agreeing to appear in the Japanese version of gHotelier.h After all, he was in the final stage of filming Koreafs largest scale drama TWSSG. BYJfs schedule was open on this one day only and the co-star, Ueto Aya along with the Japanese staff traveled to Korea.

The Japanese fans raised their voices about the gworriesh surrounding the difficult circumstances that such an appearance in a Japanese drama would bring. BYJ has not appeared in two projects concurrently up to now. But he has powerful memories of gHotelier.h

gHotelierh was very much loved by everyone in Korea and was for me a very important project. I heard that this will be the first Korean drama to be remade in Japan and I am very happy and honored.h

Manager Yang of BOF also added this.

gThe decision to appear in this drama was not an easy one. But the title of the project was the same and this first attempt for a Japanese and Korean drama has great significance. Yong Joon-sanfs friendship appearance is not a Korean project. It is also an opportunity for everyone in Japan to see his healthy appearance after a long absence. It is my wish that you please watch over him while sending him your warm thoughts.h

Cheerful in the Dressing Room

He arrived at the Hotel at 11 am and barely took meals or breaks despite the fact that filming continued on until the late evening; still BYJfs expressions were cheerful returning to the dressing room. When he sees Ueto Aya in a crying scene in the monitor, he shows a playful side of him by offering a handkerchief to the monitor. He created instant garth when he took out some matches from a box of matches on the table. He is skillful with his hands.

His manager, Fan Yong explained while looking at his watch. gThis is certainly better coordinated than filming a Korean drama. If this was Korea, NGs would be continuous, and unscheduled filming would occur one after another which the actors would have to respond to immediately, which makes for difficult circumstances.h

BYJ also said this himself. g(In Korea) the script was most always received on the day of filming at the filming site. Because of this, I was unable to memorize the lines and only acted by capturing the mood of the scene. At the time it was very difficult, but with the passage of time, I was able to act spontaneously, and I feel it was a project where I was able to mature greatly as an actor.h

Half-Filled with Enjoyment and Doubts

It seems that BYJ himself was the one who had the NG from the very start of filming on this day. Director Kinoshita Takao gave the okay at one take but BYJ said, gI would like a re-take.h Usually, a scene was re-shot 2-3 times per his request.

The director said openly and gladly, gThe tone of his voice is wonderful and his dialogue is very much alive. His eyes are forceful, and having filmed him and seeing his image on the screen, I can again see the secret to his popularity.h

BYJ used special care in his Japanese dialogue. He tells Ueto Aya, gOnly look ahead. You only have to believe. Believe in yourself,h is the Japanese speaking scene he has and for which he repeatedly practiced his pronunciation by whispering to himself in a low voice.

President Sohn, of IMX, responsible for BYJfs management in Japan, was his interpreter during the filming and also kept him company during the script reading the day before and two days before filming.

gEven this morning he was worried whether eI can suddenly change into Dong Hyukf and I told him youfll be alright. The personality of Dong Hyuk is quite similar to Yong Joon so I told him itfs alright for him to be himself. He said, eThatfs why, itfs definitely difficult.f I think he performed the role half with enjoyment and half with doubts.h

At midnight when all filming was completed, BYJ personally requested to shake everyonefs hand. Expressing his appreciation, he grasped the hand of each and every Japanese staff member.

gThis appearance was an invaluable experience. It will become my precious memory.h

Aya Ueto with Bae Yong Jun (posted by oodo in http://cafe.daum.net/byjgallery)

Hotelier - Korea location Report
Ueto Aya in the role of Odagiri Kyoko

BYJ is a very earnest person and just as he was during the CM filming, he created an atmosphere where I could concentrate, and this time he taught me Korean pronunciation. BYJ himself was concerned with his Japanese lines and I gave him a bit of advice on his Japanese accent so filming took place where we took turns teaching each other.

The meeting this time would be taking place after a long absence, so I thought I would like to give him a gift and since I heard recently that he likes wines, I presented him with a rhinestone encrusted, handmade bottle opener with the initial gYh for BYJ together with a letter written in Korean. Then I received a necklace to wear over a chima chogori which made me very happy!

Believe it or not, but we made BYJ appear in the first Japanese drama! You will appear in the Japanese version of gHotelierh in the role of Shin Dong Hyuk which is the same as the Korean version.

gI heard that a drama I appeared in was going to be remade which filled me with a sense of newness. At the same time, I will once again be playing the role of Dong Hyuk and there are some parts where I feel nervousness.h

This drama was broadcast six years ago in Korea. Do you still remember it?

gI have many memories of it. First, I remember how I would receive the script on the day of filming at the filming site. I would receive 5-10 pages of dialogue before filming. I couldnft memorize it all so I would remember only the mood of the scene and end up acting according to the mood. I remember thinking at the time, how extremely difficult it was but reflecting back, I feel that as an actor, I was able to mature greatly through this project in terms of acting spontaneously.h

The lead in gHotelierh is Ueto Aya whom you co-starred with in a CM. What are your impressions after reuniting after an absence of one year?

gRecently, fatigue resulting from the drama filming has plagued me but seeing Ueto-sanfs cheerfulness has blown away the fatigue. Tanabe Seiichi-san is also a wonderful person. When I get to Japan, I would like the opportunity to meet up with him.h

The teamwork between the co-stars is perfect but Yonsama, you appear to have lost a considerable bit of weight.

gI have lost a bit of weight for my role in the drama TWSSG. There are some who have told me that I look better thinner and others who are worried, asking me, eAre you alright?f (laughs)

Our worries are quickly blown away when we see him smiling as he says this! Oh, we canft wait until the broadcast date.
