Hmmm, I suppose that's one way of looking at it. The thing is, the book was well over 200 pages, and to condense that down into 2 hours, they end up leaving things out, taking short cuts, etc. That's what drives me nuts, is when I see the film and say, "Geez, how come they left that part out?!!?"

That's another reason why I don't read books. Beaten

You'll always second guess the scriptwriter...

I don't really watch western movies that often but this one movie rocks.
The History Boys about british boys in a grammar school doing their A levels and scoring so high they were preparing for entrance to Oxford and Cambridge which are just about the elite universities in England. Its their story and that of their teachers. Implied yaoi scenes, after all its an all boys school. Its a coming of age film with out bullying and violence, very funny, very cerebral.

Re: Novels turned to movies.

Rough job. Trying to turn a 200 to 300 page novel into a 150 page movie script.

Off hand, the only novel I can think of -- that I really liked -- that got turned into a movie -- that I really liked -- was "To Kill A Mocking Bird" Brilliant novel, brilliant movie.

For my money, the best movies either come from an original screen play, the adaptation of a stage play, or a short story.

Johnny Depp (43), Orlando Bloom (30) and other members of the cast and crew of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" landed in Japan yesterday. Hundreds of fans crowded the arrivals lobby at Narita Airport from early morning, divided into two main groups depending on their loyalty to one star or the other. They numbered in their thousands by the time Bloom arrived at 6:15pm. Depp showed up in his private jet three hours later. Both stars took their time passing through the lobby allowing fans, some in tears, to give presents and take photos. The third episode of the hugely successful movie trilogy opens worldwide on May 25, though it has its Asia premiere tonight at the Nippon Budokan in central Tokyo.

There had been rumours that they'd split the book into two movies, but filming/production would take too long, considering the actors are aging along.

I'm glad they decided against it. I'd rather to pick and choose sections than break the films up.

30 years. 30 years???

Thanks a lot Beemer. Like I didn't already feel older than dirt today.

30?

Man, I can still remember standing on line during the first week's release, waiting for people to be shoved out of the theater. Everyone wanted to just sit there and watch it again, and again, while everyone on line outside shouted at and threatened the ushers and ticket takers, because the dang line just wouldn't move!!!

30 years ago. Crap.

Worker guys at the house.

I'm stuck here, doing nothing, bored out of my mind, while 5 guys scurry around doing their jobs.

It's making me carzy.

I watched Pirates last night. I enjoyed it sooo much. Yea, Chow Yun Fat's English was soooo hard to understand but it's ok. Overall, it was very good. Yes, the ending does leave it open for another movie. I personally would like them to make another movie. They can't let it end like that! I'd be really sad if they do. Shameful Cry

And it's Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom in one movie. There. I'm set. hehe

Wah I saw it last night too!!! I thought it was FANTASTIC, PotC has always been my favourite movie/s... since I watched the first and the third one lived up to my expectations so I left the cinema happy ^_^
Did you stay for the bit after the credits?
I was ok with Chow Yun's English... I think I've become immune to accents XD
I'd like another movie... but I think it would be better if it started a brand new arc w00t! (and Johnny and Orlando are good Eye candy Beaten )

I saw Bridge to Terabithia yesterday..... Mrs A.D. got free tickets. It's meant to be a kids movie, but it was really a teriffic movie (and very sad in parts - Mrs A.D. was bawling in parts, and she had already read the book and knew what was going to happen).
