Haha, no it's a tokusatsu type of show. More on the modern side though.

Ruri no shima special Smile Nice to see almost all the characters from the series make a return. The series itself was great, it just flew by. 9/10

I've been taking a break from dramas because I was getting a bit burnt out. And it didn't help that the summer season was chock full of horrible shows.

That helps discourage people from staying indoors and forces them to get out and about during summer... Mr Green

Well, I finished the entire series of BOSS, overall, though it looked really flashy, it was only that. The stories were ok, I didn't really get into the characters, but, getting that out of the way, it's onward and upward.

That seemed to be the consensus opinion (see the BOSS thread): All sizzle, no steak.

Summer was dark indeed - I checked out and dropped immediately:
- Saru Lock - too crude
- Karei no Spy - too unfunny
- Orthrus no inu (which I dled accidentally - I didn't know who was starring otherwise I wouldn't have bothered) - too Takky

Re-watching Nobuta wo produce for the first time in 3 years Victory! Peace! Sweet as ever!

Thanks for the link. It's nice to know that other nimrods struggle with comparing one version of a show with anothers. My longest running argument with my best friend is who's Henry V was the definative version. Laurence Olivier's or Kenneth Branagh.

My pleasure, Geez. Victory! Peace!

Haven't seen either Henry V rendition... Branagh was pure gold in MUCH ADO..., but his HAMLET was such a snooze, lol. I remember thinking, dude, why do a role Mel Gibson's already done--AND owned? Naughty

Re: Dragon Zakura". Now there's a show I didn't think much of. No way it compares to "Trick".

Dragon Zak has Yampi in it and it silly High School fare.
But fun nevertheless.

Sweat Sweat Sweat

Hehehe... Thanks for all those earnest efforts to dissuade me from said drama, appreciate your commentary. hehe But, well, I just HAD to go see for myself, ne? Beaten

OT: DRAGON ZAKURA, Episode One, and I doubt I'll ever slog through the rest of it. It ain't GOKUSEN 2-bad, but still subpar. bleh More cardboard characters! More cock and bull story lines! More woefully underutilized character actors (well, hello, Abe Hiroshi, whaddahell are you doing there?)! Blerg. (Sorry, Eve, maybe if I stuck around long enough I'd find this drama fun, but after the first 20 minutes my mind began to stray to other things. Danged show just couldn't sustain my interest.) You'd think Abe Hiroshi's compelling screen presence and acting chops would make up for the drama's defects, but not so, apparently. Shake Head

(So far the only dramas of the High School sub-genre that I really, really loved, are NwP and STAND UP!--which technically isn't even set in school, lol.)

So in the interest of, ehem, fairness, will get started on TRICK tonight. Victory! Peace!

You definitely made the right decision. I agree with many of the others that Dragon Zakura sucked. Typical school drama, imo, and not worth watching. Trick, on the other hand, was a great series.

OT: Watched the first episode of Love Shuffle after reading a lot of positive reviews and getting a recommendation from someone. Seems ok so far.

Sometimes even the greats can't save a train wreck.

'Bout time.... Great chemistry between Abe and Nakama... And some pretty interesting stories/mysteries, to boot. Victory! Peace!

Second episode of Love Shuffle. Wish I could have a love shuffle of my own, but I don't know that many single people. Sad I also might get jealous if someone I like joins in though...

I just recently finished Mr Brain and Rinjo which were decent but I think the quality of jdramas nowadays is just continually spiralling downwards Sweat
