Thanks a lot Phinn, good stuff
By any chance do you know why the group broke up??? did they not do so good??
Yeah, basically, they weren't popular enough. They released 5 singles and had a couple of advertising contracts, but they didn't make it big enough. Their last performance together was in March 2001.
Things looked bleak.
However Aya managed to get herself a role in Kinpachi Sensei 6. Luckily, the hard-hitting role and excellent performance she gave was enough to restart her career. By the time Kinpachi Sensei 6 was over in April 2002, Aya had got herself a solo contract with Pony Canyon and 'Pureness' was released in August 2002.
If you've seen Kinpachi Sensei, you'll know that her image for both her first two singles were very much built on her role in Kinpachi Sensei - very tomboyish with her short hair, leather jacket and boots - more Nao than Aya. It wasn't until 'Azumi' was released that she began to be recognised as herself. Even up until her very recent megastardom, she was still thought of in Japan as 'that tomboy from Kinpachi Sensei'.
Interestingly, Kitamura wanted her for the role of Azumi before Kinpachi was shown as he felt she had the right look, but it wasn't until Kinpachi was airing that the producers were convinced she was the right choice.
