Akakage? ha..ha..There's a ninja movie with a twist that's why I like it! I'm sort of looking for something different in Ninja or Samurai Film. Have seen enough serious one. At the moment I'm still waiting for "Azumi" who's directed by the same guy that made "Versus" and "Alive", perhaps I can see more fighting scene.
it have its moment, but if i know before that the end would be like this. i would definetly not buy it. i also veryy curious about azumi, i ghave watch versus and i like it.

Masanobu ANdo
Megumi Okina
Kumiko Aso
Jun Murakami
Naoto Takenaka,etc
NINJUTSU is da word ne
Red Ninja (see my avatar) a.k.a AKAKAGE was actually made last year. Not so much for Samurai Action though, it's more like a comedy. But I like it! If you want to see some slashing..go watch Abe Hiroshi slashing bandits and monster in "Moon Over Tao" (sci-fi Samurai flick).

2. Go Con (Rina Uchiyama)
3. Postman Blues (Shinichi Tsutsumi)
4. Goodbye Mr. Mcdonald (Toshiaki Karasawa)
5. Bo Taoshi (Lead, Shinya Takeuchi, Kyohei Kaneko)
6. Bayside Shakedown (Yuji Oda, Eri Fukatsu, Miki Mizuno)
7. Wasabi (Jean Reno, Ryoko Hirosue)
8. Adrenalin Drive (Masanobu Ando, Hikari Ishida)
9. Kikujiro (Beat Takeshi)
10. Space Traveller (Takeshi Kaneshiro, Ando Masanobu) - funny but a bit tragic
11. Transparent (Ando Masanobu, Kyoka Suzuki) also has funny bits and sad moment.
Hasn't anyone seen Lily Chou-Chou no Subete? I love it. I'm a H.U.G.E Shunji Iwai fan.
And no one mentioned Dolls! Gohatto!
Another interesting film would be Happiness of the Katakuris. It's weird like the rest of Takashi Miike's films.
I'm looking for Eureka in VCD format...
Hehe! I've had Lily Lily for nearly a year or more, still haven't watched. I'm quite lazy sometimes and the movie is 3 hrs, makes hesitatin a bit.
Had Dolls, deleted it, needed space for dramas Will re-leech it.
Gohatto, seen it. It was a pretty good movie.A "beautiful and feminine" samurai apprentice, hehe! Not recommended for homophobic ppl, j/k
Yes, Miike movies are weird and funny too. I haven't Katakuris myself, gotta see it. The last Miike movie I saw was Fudoh. Umm....that was one helluva bizarre movie. a Yakuza -theme, Miike is known for his yakuza theme of the movies. Yakuza vs school wackos! A hermafrodite high school girl who is a "professional assassin", killin her targets on a " metal straw" with a poisonous dart shot from her...."kitty cat" Hehe! That's strong muscles needed!
Elementary school pupils equipped machine guns Some wacko wannabe North Korean taekwondo master ordered to kill a yakuza boss....
Ok, I'm getting myself as well as I type
I like Miike movies. They are "refreshing" from the other mainstream movies. You should see Visitor Q
Haven't followed Japanese movies in a while, jdramas kept me occupied.

Yeah its a comedy, yet very weird......as if no plot. See it urself!
Btw, ando masanobu is very kakkoi indeed.
I recommend Battle Royale.
