I just bought this for my friend's birthday gift...I am anxious to give it to him to see how this thing performs....that sonvabitch plays so many file formats AND softsubs....now he can throw way the TMPGEnc conversion software!

Hope the remote is better than the one on my LiteOn: you practically have to throw the remote at the player to get it to work.

I'm planning to get a mac soon. Do I need to install codecs to play avi and other video files or will VLC do?

VLC and MplayerOSX2 will play just about everything out of the box, even some corrupted video files.
i have the latest DiVX package installed just in case.

man, it looks tight. you wouldn't know when it comes out does it? I googled for that oppo 385 and it only gave me 2 hits: and niether has any info on this unit...

sorry, man, i don't know. it might be worth a shot to e-mail their corporate office....located in mountain view, california....i know i purchased the standalone oppo digital dvd player that attaches to your t.v. for a friend as a gift...and he said it works like a dream...in fact i've seen it myself at his house and it does play divx and xvid encoded files quite well.

yeah, i have the philips 642 and it too plays divx/some xvids and i would have to hate to downgrade to a portable dvd player that only plays dvd's. thx again Tu.

i think he was looking for a portable dvd player not a set top dvd player.....he already has a dvd player which he uses regularly with his television
