Frings suspended for semi-final

Torsten Frings suspended for World Cup semi-final – second match suspension on probation
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee today served a two-match suspension on German international Torsten Frings. Given the fact that he had previously been provoked by his opponents, the second match suspension is subject to a six-month probationary period. Depending on the result of the semi-final between Germany and Italy on 4 July 2006, Frings may therefore play in the final or in the play-off for third place. The Disciplinary Committee also imposed a fine of CHF 5,000 on Frings. The committeefs decision is final.
The committee ruled that it had been proved that Frings had punched Argentine international Julio Cruz immediately after the World Cup quarter-final between Germany and Argentina on 30 June 2006. In the opinion of the committee, this action was tantamount to an assault.
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee launched its investigation into Torsten Fringsf actions after pictures shown on television on Sunday afternoon. As part of the proceedings, the German football association (DFB) and the accused player were requested to comment and to cite any mitigating evidence. The judgment pronounced on Frings was the result of the unequivocal television images showing his assault on Cruz. Neither the DFB nor the player could refute the objective evidence at hand.

Me too wished they took out Ronaldo, Cafu and put in Robinho, Adriano a lot earlier in the game... Ronaldo is very slow and fat now, didnt help the team...
I dont believe that Brazil players played at their best level, everbody saw it.
Completely disappointed wtih brazil.

Blatter wants to avoid future yellow peril
FIFA president Sepp Blatter will consider a rule change allowing three yellow cards before a suspension in future World Cups and has called for a crackdown on players feigning injury to disrupt matches.
Currently, two bookings in the group stage or knockout phase leads to a one-match ban for a player.
Blatter told a news conference in Berlin: 'In the future there should perhaps be three yellow cards in a round before a suspension, and this is something we will take up.
'This would avoid players in the semi-finals on one yellow card who by bad luck may get a second and cannot play in the final.
'The referees should also first tell a player to calm down and then give him a yellow card the second time if it is not a very serious foul.'
Blatter also blasted as 'cheating' those players who try to halt attacks by opposing teams by calling for treatment on the pitch.
He said: 'This is abusing the system. Players are just lying down and inviting the other team to kick the ball out.
'This is increasing and it is nothing more than cheating, and this is something we will look at in the future.'Meanwhile, Blatter said football had been cleared of any involvement in the doping scandal that has rocked Spain.
'I have heard from the minister of culture and education and he has said no football players or tennis players from Spain or foreign countries are involved in this operation,' said Blatter.
Blatter also confirmed Brazil was almost certain to be the hosts of the 2014 World Cup, which is to be played in South America under FIFA's rotation system.
No other South American country has expressed an interest but Brazil still need to satisfy FIFA they have the necessary laws and potential facilities available to host the tournament.

Meh, they implemented this rule: when asking for a card = getting a card yourself. why do I never see this happening? Refs rarely give yellow for that. Or how about a tackle from behind should always be red - I never see that either.
and wth, Frings being banned because of footage afterwards? Then Figo should be banned too for giving out this headbutt. Or Italy shouldn't be allowed to play the semis because the penalty they got was through a dive.
damn. that was one fantastic football match. and i am really really happy that italy has proved me wrong.
world cup should be like this. this is one of the best games in the tournament. and the ref is cool too.
no loser this time. both teams played very well, but it were italy who scored two goals in the end. _________________
