Really? I just thought all older people was suppose to give out the "red packets" (lay-cee). BTW, what is angpau? I know I should know it, being chinese and all... Sad

That is the Cantonese pronunciation of it. In the beginning of the thread there is a mandarin pronuciation of it as well.

Lay-cee is the cantonese pronunciation of the red-packets (you know, thing with the money inside). Example below, do a scroll down and you will find the def of what we're talking about (what lang is angpau anyways? Maybe mandarin?)

oH
now i remember
lolz..i call myself a chinese
=P
i only use "lai see" when i asked for angpau
example : lai see tao loi >> a way to ask angpau during cny

but i seldom hear ppl use "lai see" to refer to angpau in cantonese
angpau is know as "hungpau" in cantonese..direct translation means red packet
^^)

You're right. I'm CHN and I don't even want to work for a chinese boss. I think I'd always feel I was underperforming. Now with regular americans, they can always know when to use a "coffee/cigarette break".
