We have this Eurocup game at work, each player got to draw one country and the winner gets the jackpot.
I got Turkey Shameful Cry no offence but letLs put it this way, I basically wasted 5 Euro.

Well.. Be optimistic!

Its better than getting Switzerland! And the way the Turks finished the last match, don't write them off completely (though the chances of them winning the cup are slim).

haha, we get to bet on single matches at work (only holland games ofcourse and only €1,-) anyway, since nobody would even think of betting 3-0 (Holland vs Italy) the money stays in the pot and for the next match against France the potsize is now around €80. For the game tomorrow: Holland vs France I bet 1-2. even though I sense a pretty surprising result.

if anybody still don't know, Scolari is appointed to be Chelsea coach after Euro 08... and,

from Yahoo! Sports :
Scolari given player wish list and a blank cheque
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to hand Luiz Felipe Scolari unlimited access to the club coffers when the Brazilian takes charge of the team next month, reports said Friday.

According to reports, the 59-year-old who led his native Brazil to World Cup glory in 2002 can look forward to having some of the world's biggest players at his disposal as Abramovich strives for his team to play a more attractive style of attacking football.

The Times newspaper speculated that Scolari, announced as Chelsea's new boss on Wednesday, has been handed a player wish-list that includes Liverpool's Fernando Torres, Bayern Munich's Frank Ribery and AC Milan forward Kaka, Brazil-born Portuguese midfielder Deco and Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o to Stamford Bridge from Barcelona.

Chelsea would be ready to use Ivory Coast forward Didier Drogba and Ukrainian marksman Andriy Shevchenko as powerful bargaining chips in their bid for Kaka, who is said to be worth upwards of 60 million pounds (76 million euros).

Scolari's first competitive game as Chelsea manager will be the first Premier League match of the 2008-09 season on the weekend of 16-17 August.

I did say that I expected a surprising result: Holland vs France

4-1 Shocked

first we destroy the worldchamp by 3-0, now the runner up by 4-1. now we have to face either Sweden or Spain...

Man! Holland is churning out some impressive matches! First they destroy Italians and now the French as Terryb says.. No wonder as they have VanBasten as coach (one of my all time fav players). 7 goals in 2 matches against the last world cup finalists! wow!

Holland really does play 'the beautiful game' at its best.. I am only worried if they have to play teams such as Greece who would try to play ultra defensively and would try to kick the players to get the ball (No disrespect to the Greeks, but everyone would agree that their brand of football is not the best to watch/enjoy)..

Funny thing is, during the qualifiers and last World Cup, the majority of the dutch fans hated Van Basten as teammanager. (including me)

and up till the last few games he must and had to play 4-3-3 no matter what, (even when we don't have the players to play it properly) like during the World Cup, we got owned. the role of Sneijder as defending midfielder (ala Pirlo) was just pathetic. Sneijder is at his best behind the strikers and he proves it every game at Real and now for Holland.

suddenly (and about time too) Van Basten realized that 4-3-3 wasn't a must anymore. and started adopting the teamformation the quality of his players.

we only started playing 4-2-3-1 since the last 3 matches, and oh boy it works out well. everyone was like "WHAT!?" when Robben came on for Engelaar. (Orlando Engelaar, one of our defending midfielders) when the French were taking control over the game. 99% of the time managers would bring on an extra defender when the team's about to be overrun, but Van Basten made a brave decision to fight fire with fire. And Robben scored the 3-1, just within the minute when France scored the 2-1. Destroying all hope for the French, watching Henry kneel down when Robben scored 3-1 said enough.

I just hope Holland can continue to play this amazingly throughout the tournament, they seem untouchable atm, we'll have to face Sweden or Spain in the quarterfinal - no problem you would say, (if you can beat Italy or France) but in the semis we could meet Romania/France/Italy yet again. I think a Portal/Germany vs Holland would make a great final Victory! Peace!

Interesting to read that the dutch people/fans hated Van Basten initially as the manager of the national team.

4-2-3-1 seems to be working brilliantly for the dutch.. But now the worry starts.. Most teams would be prepared to mark their players down after seeing the dutch destroy the Italians and the French..

I don't have any favs for the tournament.. But from a neutral point of view, the dutch have been just awesome to watch.. And if they can win the cup with this brand of football, it would be a victory for football as such! We all knew that the Netherlands have some of the world's best/exciting players and now its just a treat to watch them play this brilliantly.

My ideal final would be Spain vs Holland (though its almost impossible that it can happen) Smile

Well the main reason why people hated Van Basten, is because he failed miserably at the World Cup 2006. normally any manager would get fired right away, but just because of his status as one of the alltime best players of Holland (like Cruijf) he got a second chance. (which I think he did not deserve)

what pissed me off big was that Van Basten said (after being knocked out the second round at the World Cup): the World Cup was a nice test. I was like: WTF?!! Beat You you can test all you want during the qualifiers, the World Cup is the highest level/stage in football, and he considers it as a nice stage to experiment? Bang Head

Van Basten also promised to play dominating and attacking football when he got appointed 4 years ago, and now it's finally happening. some may say, better late than never..

back on topic, seems like Holland will face Sweden in the quarterfinal, there could be a semifinal Spain vs Holland now Mr Green

Interesting..

Holland v Spain semifinal would be a treat to watch.. None of the other teams have been as exciting as these two have been.. Even the Spain v Sweden match was exciting (esp. the last minute winner by Villa).

Looking ahead to the next matches, Italy v France could one humdinger of a match! Even winning the match may not be sufficient for one of these teams if Romania beats Holland (highly improbable, unless Holland rests all of its important players).

whoa~~that will be one of the most interesting game for this euro. the first one must be Italy vs France, and maybe Italy vs German. But this three team is still too far to go to semi final. I don't know what happen for this three team, including Greece. Seems like their golden moments in Euro is at the end. But I still hope for German, anyway Sweat Am I the only German fanz here, or is there any?

Germany was one of the favorites to win the tournament before it started.. But after a wobbly display against the Poles and the defeat against the Croatians, their chances of getting into the quarter finals are looking shaky.. But they should get through if not as the group winners.. Otherwise it would be a massive disappointment..

And they deserved to win too - tonights game will probably won by Croatia.

I think tomorrow's game Holland vs Russia will be spectacular to watch, even though the russians started off badly (4-1 defeat by Spain), they recovered well. They even play very similar attacking way. well ofcourse they do, because the teammanager is none other than Guus Hiddink Mr Green still I think Holland will win.

what i'm afraid of is that Italy, who started off with their biggest defeat ever (3-0 against Holland) will beat Spain to go through to the semis, only to face Holland again. (who the hell chose the table setup this time??) and now the italians will win :/

Yes I'm looking forward to the Holland-Russa match...should be very exciting. As you mentioned there could very well be a rematch against Italy...and there could be a rematch of Germany v. Croatia as well....very interesting. Victory! Peace!
