Just watched SUMMER WARS and it was every bit as entertaining and soul-stirring as the premise, poster art and reviews promised. (Thanks for the rec, Tu and beemer, much appreciated! ) I think I enjoyed this even more than I did THE GIRL WHO LEAPT THROUGH TIME and quite possibly just as much as SPIRITED AWAY. The painstaking detail that went into making sure each family member was unique but fully believable -- that ALONE makes this film a must-see.
And woah woah -- I just looked up the voice actor who portrayed Kenji and I CAN'T BELIEVE he also did the voice (more like baby sounds anyway) of Yubaba's elephantine tot in SPIRITED AWAY (!!!), and also acted in BLOODY MONDAY 2 as the evil hackerboy nemesis, Hornet (whom I seriously wanted to PUNCH IN THE FACE every time). Who knew, right?
Glad you enjoyed the film
It's an animated film that is definitely a "cut above."

Ever since he was so cute as Kyuu in Tantei Gakuen Q I kept on fantasising I'm his mother! Then I also had a wake-up call when I saw BM2 and Keizoku Spec. They turn nasty when the teenage hormones kick in ne!

That too.
Hmm, I suppose Pixar must have Miyazaki Hayao's consent for using Totoro, huh?
Somebody owns the rights, maybe Studio Ghibli since they produced the film...I thought Miyazaki was all anti-technology and into traditional cell animation. WTF?
All I know is somebody needs to get kicked in the Ghibli's for this ish. Hard.

The business school graduate geek in me is pretty much excited about this new show:
"Drucker in the Dug-Out," a 10-part animated series showing weeknights on NHK starting April 25, whose Japanese title is "Moshidora."

Finally finished Kimi ni Todoke, season 2. Good stuff. Some of the characters are very endearing and some are very funny. Great mix of fun, friendship, and romance.
