Hope we can see event like Berlin wall, South and North Korea united....There shouldn't be any border between family..Whatever the reason. And da name is KOREA. ne minna.
I don't believe Korea will unite as one during my lifetime. Sorry for being pessismistic. N Korea is a communist state, they only want to blackmail for more benefits from the US, EU and Japan. N Korea is pullin new tricks up its sleeve http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/3076996.stm
I don't think US can just wait and do nothin. Let's see how long can N Korea last from the pressure. Back to the cold war era. The beginning of 21 century has been terrible to the world such as world wide recession, WTC, Iraqi war, floods and earthquakes etc.
It is safe to say that 99.9% of Koreans in the States are from South Korea.
Although there are few pro-North Korea organization in the US, but I believe they are still from South Korea.
North Korea isn't a communist country, but it is a Stalinistic Totalism country!!
Somebody brought out the movie "go". I have very interesting story for you. I happened to talk to a Korean ethnic girl from Japan few years ago. She told me that when her grandfather was asked to choose either North, South Korea, or Japanese passport around late 1940s', her grandfather chose North Korea (He was living in Japan at that time). She didn't tell me why her grandfather chose North Korea, but she added to me that a lot of people chose North Korea that time. To become a Japanse citizen, you have to change your name to Japanese style (I feel this is bit stupid). I think that is why he decided not to get Japanese passport and many other Koreans in Japan still don't have Japanese citizenship, although some of them are 3rd or 4th generation.
I heard a rumor that Kimura Takuya's father or grandfather is actually Korean.

drive, thanks for the info! I wonder why her grampa didn't choose a South Korean citizenship. He didn't want to be in the US controlled South Korea? Have to agree with you that in order to have a japanese citizen, the name needed to be renamed. The Korean descendants are still discriminated in Japan

Interesting story, Drive. I think that most people in this forum that has parents/grandparents of asian descent have some WWII story to tell that would be similar to the one above. _________________
wow, thanks for that story Drive; I didn't realize especially about that people had to change their name to a Japanese style if to become a japanese citizen.. that doesn't seem right, people should be allowed to keep their original names

"C" or "K" WHO CARES!!
Changing to "C" does not transform South Korea to a super power nation instantly. Some people in Korea wasting their energies on usuless things.

ahh.. Corea and Chapan
Animosity runs DEEEP still in the Korean/Korean-Americans with the JPN's. Very nationalistic, a lot of Koreans opt to never purchase anything made in japan. Hyundais over hondas, samsung over mitsubishi (hey, they're even kind of simular: sansung = 3 stars; mitsubishi = 3 diamonds). And another touchy subject is the naming of Sea of Japan.
http://geography.about.com/library/weekly/aa022402a.htm. A korean co-worker INSISTS it should be called the East Sea.
Most people might think that these 3, Japan, Korea, China really hate one another, but my opinion is that they have that in other region as well. France, Germany, England. My point is that most neighboring country have some sort of animosity towards one another.
I also would like to add that it's not just with other countries as well. It happens WITHIN a country, too. For our sake, I'll use Japan as an example. Okinawa is considered to be Japan, as a lot of us know. But Okinawa has a high distain for Japan, or "mainlanders" as they are called. They considered themselves to be called Okinawa first, then Japanese. Okinawa at one time was a separate country, language, even Royalty (king) until the annexation of the JPN Imperial Military Machine in 1872 during the Meiji period (1868-1912). In short, JPN was brutal to her Okinawan subjects. Some might say that is a real reson that Karate started, for the japanese took away all the islander's weapons, including most farm equipment (hoes, shovels, etc), essentially disarming the people of okinawa and leaving them empty handed, which is what Kara (empty) te (hand) means.
I can talk for days on this subject, so I'll leave it at that and leave that until someone starts another thread. This thread is about S.Korea, remember ? _________________

You are right in that aspect, but you have to remember that a lot of our parents/grandparents grew up during the time of Japan dominating over asia militaristically (is that a word?). So I'm sure that hatred has somewhat passed even just a little. I take me as an example: I remember story my mom told when she was little that she use to hid in the closet with her siblings duing the bombing of canton. She was so scared that when they entered the bombed out housing and all they heard was JPN soldiers yelling all kinds of things. Nothing physically happedned to her, tho. Her mom (my grandma) had 2 of her fingers of her left hand cut off because she refused to "give up information" (that she had no knowledge of anyways). She said that she was lucky compared to some of the things that she saw. After the war, during HK's restructuring, all the civilians had very little to eat. EVERYONE in asia at the time, not just Koreans hated the JPNese. Needless to say, I grew up having ill feeling towards JPN, as a matter of fact whenever the subject of JPN came up, it was always "Those damn Japanese are no damn good..." so you can imagine what was going thru my head later on when I would eventually told them that I have decided to marry Tomomi, and yes she is JPN.
I guess the moral of this story is: Although one can grow up with hatred, it can be learned to be subsided. _________________

My personal opinion is It is really kind of dangerous ne when one country which is so powerful not lead by someone who is not have concsience..For me I hate war.....whatever the reason...
Seem like what German and Japan did past decade...Now
History can be happen again if we 're not careful..I think we should put our WHole effort to develop the culture of mankind...That's why we have to maintain the peace whatever it cost but not by killing ppl for a reason..
But seem to me that again and again ppl who rules the country or have the power on the government not put alot of effort to maintain the peace...They could use all those money which is use to research on weapon to a more useful purpose...Cancer ,Aids,Leukimia can be cure if we got all those money...Or poverty...or on Education those such things..
Ne. Or is it just part of Human..ne
Bottom Line:War is not right whatever the reason. We should spent our life doing more useful things..ne
